I learned to drive on a stick. It didn't take long at all and that's all I'll ever drive!

It'll take you about an hour to learn how to do it. To get good at it will take another few hours of driving. I'd recommend practicing in an empty parking lot or on a wide open road until you're comfortable.
You'll be better off in the long run knowing how to drive a stick. You may need to rent a car sometime, or drive a friend home, or rent a truck to move to a new home, and you never know when you'll need to be able to work a clutch. Plus, if you ever buy a fancy sports car, you're going to want to get a stick.
It's certainly harder, but not that hard to learn. When I was 16, my parents made me learn to drive a stick. I'm glad they did. I even took my drivers test in a stick shift and aced it.
Good luck.

Eveyone here has been helpful.
Everyvehicle that has a clutch has a freeplay in the pedal.
What you need to do to help with learning to not stall is (in an empty area) push the clutch to the floor, (preferably a nice quiet area) put the vehicle in first, slowly ease the clutch pedal up, FEEEEEEEL where the freeplay goes away and where the vehicle will actually want to start going. Get used to the way the pedal feels and how it moves through the stroke of the pedal and how the clutch releases. Once you feel out the pedal, the rest is timing.

Not long as long as you don't burn the clutch out. Take it real slow don't give it to much gas or you will burn the clutch to slow and you will stall it . Best to practice in the driveway so you don't panic .
the hardest thing to do it getting it to role once you get it it role the rest is a breeze . you have to listen to the motor at the same time and synchronize the sound with the clutch .and that takes practice . Be careful starting off on a hill it will role back and you will hit the car behind you that's why you need practice . I guarantee your not just going to go out there and do it .If you ever road a motor cycle the principle is the same Good luck

Its easy give it a day and you'll have it down pat, once u get the hang of first gear its a peice of cake, just remember ease off the clutch but give it enough gas so ya dont kill it, its better to give it to much gas than not enough lol... i learned in like 20 min's became a pro in like a day of driving all day. GOOD LUCK its easy

I drove VW way back in early 70's.
I never got comfortable with stick shift.
I guess if you lived in a flat state it would be a whole lot easier.
I never really got the hang of hills.
I would rather do auto
the procedure isn't hard.
some people have a better "feel" for it than others.

If it takes more than 3 days you shouldn't be driving an automatic either. Its not that hard people just assume it will be complicated.

after a month it will be like breathing and as long as you don't live in a crazy city there is no reason to go back to automatic. If your ever in a emergency you will be lucky to know manual

If you already know how to drive, and you have a good teacher....an afternooon should be ok. Takes some practice and a very good sense of humor to get used to it though!!! Good Luck!
