I like both, but I crave salt. Some people it's sugar, and chocolate, me it's salt and sour. I don't don't if it's the salt or the sour, or combination of both but I drink way more water and liquids than average.

Salt is to bring out the flavors that you have used to where pepper is to just spice it up a little. So in my case I like salt better for it has more of a use in cooking then pepper. Pepper is just one of many spices.

Salt and pepper aren't interchangeable! he he.
But pepper is more exciting than salt. If I had to be on an island I'd choose the pepper.

Salt is very important in cooking because it causes a chemical reaction...it "pulls" flavor out of vegetables and herbs/spices.
I like grinding smoked or garlic sea salt. Sea salt doesn't taste "salty."
Pepper is a lot of fun if you grind your own. The flavor is pungent, and the peppercorns are colorful if you use the right ones. I currently have pink, mulberry, ground jalapeno, black and white peppercorns next to my mill.
I can't choose!

black pepper is overrated, I dont think it merits a place in the top 2 with good old salt.
