Try GoldWave.
if you like it and use it for much too long, you will have to pay, but the trial period is very generous.
(www.goldwave.com).
Also, to do the recording, open the windows sound mixer, go to file, then properties, and pick recording, then choose "stereo mix" or the equivalent for what source to record.
This can also be set in Goldwave.
