Overgrowth of yeast in the mouth, known as thrush, can be a normal condition in an infant's mouth because of an underdeveloped immune system. In older children and adults, thrush can result from taking antibiotics because all of the normal bacterial flora dies, allowing yeast to grow. In the absence of recent antibiotic therapy, thrush in adults can be very scary because it is often one of the first real symptoms of AIDS. In short, thrush should not occur in a person with a normal immune system unless there is an antibiotic involved.

High sugar intake....or:

If you have been taking antibiotics, those will kill off the good bacteria in your mouth. When the good bacteria is dead, it can't eat the yeast that normally multiplies in your mouth, so the yeast overgrows.
