Its called chat-speak. It is used to save time when typing/writing.
Also, that IS they way we TALK. Phonetically speaking there is nothing wrong with that sentence.
On the other hand, I recently read an article in the newspaper about that shorthand showing up in students papers in school. So you may be on to something....

In cases like this I think we can chalk it up to....shorthand, sort of, for communicating via email and text messages. I'm sure most of the people who communicate like this actually do know how to write a decent sentence...and besides, what you wrote was a GOOD example. I've seen some sentences written by youth AND adults that display the grammar of someone who has never sat in a classroom!

Languages evolve, you do not speak the English of your ancestors. Why should the youth of today adhere to your ideal of English?

It's called chat-speak.. People get tired of typing with capital letters and complete sentences when typing for hours on the computer. Do you think we spell the same when we're typing an essay? No.
