They are not all so unusual really. They are called polydactyl cats. From Wikpedia it says:
A polydactyl cat is a cat that has more than the usual number of toes on one or all of its paws. In animals including humans, polydactyly (or polydactylism, also known as hyperdactyly) is the anatomical abnormality of having more than the usual number of digits on the hands or feet. Polydactyly is a congenital abnormality, usually genetically inherited as an autosomal dominant trait with incomplete penetrance. Polydactyly is not life-threatening and usually not even debilitating to a cat. In some cases it appears to improve the dexterity of the animal.

The writer Ernest Hemmingway very famously had a 6 toed cat at his home in Cuba. That cat's descendants still live in that house many years later.

Yes. It is an inherited genetic trait that is quite common in cats. My aunt in Northern Idaho used to have feral cats at her cabin. The dominant tomcat in the area was polydactyl so all the kittens inherited the genetic anomaly. Some of them had 7-8 toes on each foot.

When I was a kid we had a cat like that. He was the best cat! Those cats that have 6 or more toes are called Hemmingway Cats. They are from upeast where Hemmingway had them and also Key West.

Yes, I used to have one. His name was Bobby and he sadly passed away July of last year at the age of 16. He had an extra toe on every foot. They are called polydactly cats.

The cat is probably a Maine Coon. It is a special breed with six toes.

My mom always called them "mitten toes" because their paws looked so bulky. I know it was quite common with calicos. Regardless, it is so cute...
