say im talking to someone online. i use AIM to talk to people, sometimes just mess around with them, nothing serious. but now theres this guy that says hes 20, and my supposed character is a 17 year old girl. he obiously wants to meet me to do some stuff. i just want to know who can i contact, that would catch this guy. say i tell him to meet me at 123 fake street, hackler, massachuesets (example), can i just tell the police to show up at that address when i told him i would meet him.
basically in a nutshell: its like im doing the dateline undercover thing for predators, but im a vigilante. i just want to know who i contact so that they catch this guy.

17 is pretty old for a molestation sting, she would be 18 by the time of the trial, I think you just like pretending, get a wig!

Yeah its alot of fun to mess with creepy people on here. You oughta not feel bad about it, because anyone worth a darn wouldn't be talking to a 17 year old girl on here if they are older. But 20 and 17 aren't that far apart, so I really don't know how law enforcement would react unless he is really wanting to do some deranged stuff. By "do some stuff" do you mean go fishing or something inappropriate? Remember these kids in the scenarios on to catch a predator are like 15 tops. But what the heck, I prefer older women (I am an adult by the way) so I really don't have a problem with what you are doing!

Considering 16 is the age of consent in Mass. This guy isn't even breaking the law. I think maybe you should read up on the laws in your state regarding sex crimes before you go and try to accuse people of committing one. I think you have good intentions here but the road to hell was paved with good intentions. If your intentions are really sincere and you are honestly trying to make AIM a safer place for younger kids to chat then you should check out all the laws that pertain to sex crimes in your state. Making accusations and not knowing what you are talking about will hinder anything good you may be able to do at this point.

16 is the age of consent in Massachussetts, so the man would not be committing a crime in the state of Mass by having sex with a 17 year old. This law varies by state, so if you are not in Mass. it would be different.
It is also possible that you are committing a crime by your actions, for example if you were to post this man on an online "predator" list you would have been guilty of slander, since in the scenario above, the man committed no crime. Leave law enforcement to the police.

with you, you go after him and then what because what
if he is just playing around as well online.............................
On the serious side report him to the relevant authorities
if he gets a little over the top, speak to the police do not try
to sting him yourself as you are not a policeman are you.....

contact your local police or call the f.b.i. But..I reread your letter and you are presenting yourself as a legal age..online predators go after 12,13 not 17 year olds.If you want to catch online predators you are going to have to present yourself as the child you are.alone,lonely and confused

call your local police dept and turn him in they usually have a dept. that deals with that stuff. also until you do save and print the aim conversation between you and the guy. you are risking yourself if you meet someone like that cuz he might show up prepared to hurt you.
