Any food can give you gas. All gas is; is a bulid up of wates given off by bacteria in your digestive tract. Some food just are more porne to the bacteria growth than others.

What Foods Cause Gas?
Obviously, some foods cause more gas than others. As any schoolboy will tell you, the most notorious offender is baked beans, but there are plenty of others, including grains (for instance, the word pumpernickel is believed to stem from Middle German and mean, roughly, "goblin that breaks wind").
Any food that is high in soluble fiber, for instance, is only broken down by bacteria in the large intestine, so that can mean more gas. Foods that may cause gas include:
* Vegetables such as cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, brussels sprouts, onions, artichokes, and asparagus
* Beans
* Fruits such as apples, pears, and peaches
* Whole grains, such as whole wheat and bran
* Sodas and fruit drinks
* Foods with sorbitol, often used as a sweetener in sugar-free gums and candies

Here is a list of complex carbohydrates TYPICAL of causing flatulence:
Whole grain: bagels, barley, breakfast cereals, granola, oatbran, pasta, rice bran, rye, sorghum grain, wheatbran, whole wheat flour, whole grain breads.
Vegetables: beets, broccoli, brussels sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, forn, cucumbers, leeks, lettuce, onions, parsley, sweet peppers.
Beans: Black-eyed peas, bog beans, broad beans, chickpeas, lentils, lima beans, mung beans, peanuts and peanut butter, pinto beans, red kidney beans, seed flour (sesame, sunflower), soybeans and soy milk.
Each person's body is unique, and only you can know which foods or food combinations are likely to make you flatulent. One person may eat fibrous foods on a regular basis and experience no discomfort, while another person making the transition to a fiber-rich diet, or simply eating more fiber than usual, may experience bloating and gas... it takes time for a body to adjust to dietary changes. For example choosing a handful of dried fruit would be a tremendous increase in fiber over choosing a handful of fresh fruit, and could lead to discomfort and gas. For others it could be "food combinations" that cause gas, such as combining fruit and starchy foods...while it may not be an issue at all for others.
Get to know your own body and how it responds to a variety of foods and food combinations. A number of herbs, called carminatives, help expel gas from the intestinal tract. One of the most effective and easiest to get is fennel seed, which you can buy in the spice section of any supermarket. Try chewing a half-teaspoon of fennel seeds at the end of a meal or any time you feel distended from gas.

Doctor told me that the caffeine in soda and chocolate causes gas and to stay away from them. Hard to do.

Anything that you cannot digest, but the bacteria living in your colon can!
usually anything with a lot of soluble fiber, or very complex sugars. (beans have a lot of both)
However, sulfur-containing foods smell the worst.

Food that your stomach can't digest properly and beans and sweet potatoes. Eating large amount of ginger also does that.
