I haven't encountered people being hostile in here, just rude and demeaning. Most of the hecklers in this category get their kicks by picking on Christians. I suppose it gets some people upset.

same thing with politics and certain other topics they are very touchy, senstive topics for many and people feel very strongly about them...
and if you don't agree...well...here come the fireworks...like that will really change your mind to their way of feeling...
when people feel strongly they will react strongly if you don't agree...often people are close minded to everything but their point of view and will defend it by getting angry
its a feeling thing not a thinking thing
we are not dealing with rational when people get hostile...
so avoid it whenever and wherever you can, it resolves nothing...

You have to know that religion is a hostile subject. Look at all of the wars that have been started because of it.

The reason that people get extreamly defensive regarding religion is that many time's that person has been raised in that religion. their entire lives and how they live is based on religion. so stating that their religion my be wrong is to question the bases for their entire lives.

if you saw a man standing with a gun to his head....would you not try and talk him out of it? even if you had to resort to screaming? (normally doesn't work). what about a man about to jump off a bridge?
same with religion....they are afraid of what will happen to you after death. they actually care enough that it turns into being aggressive. And this is a problem....as when this happens, most won't listen to the message they are trying to get across. But this is a human error, so what can we do?
Why do couples fight? cause they care so much.

Hard to say, but they certainly do. The difference between a religious person and a scientist is that the religious does not welcome a challenge to his beliefs, while a scientist relishes it. Which is why science is useful: the bad ideas get weeded out. (Doesn't happen in religion, of course.)

It is possible to be religious and not spiritual.
It is the immaturity of religious people to be exclussive in their faith and that makes they not accomodative to other view than theirs and so they become hostile.
