I am 19 years old and just received a citation for a moving violation(I ran a stop sign) in Northern California(City of Cupertino). The car and insurance are under my father's name. Obviously, I'd get a point off if I were to just pay the fine, but if I paid the fine myself and went to traffic school, would my parents ever find out? Like would they receive a call or a notice in the mail(like a little note on the next insurance bill). I know the best thing to do would be to tell them, but I'd rather just deal with it myself and avoid the lecture.

He said I would not lose the point if I went to traffic school. Would it still show up on the insurance bill?

So besides the ticket in the mail, if I paid the bill myself and went to traffic school, nothing would show up on the insurance bill?

You should just tell them about it. Don't be such a wimp. If the car and insurance is in your father's name he is sure to find out anyway. If you didn't tell me and I was your father you'd get more than a lecture, you would be walking.

As long as you take care of the citation no one should contact your parents. Unless it raises your father's insurance then they would never know. At 19 you are an adult.

Dude, I tried hiding a speeding ticket from my mom in my purse and she found that one day by chance, you might as well tell them, insurance will go up and all that great stuff. Just tell em, lectures suck, but wait til they find out you were hiding it from them...

I believe if you pay the fine amount to the court, and go through traffic school, either on-line or in person, there will be no indication of you offense on your insurance file.

good luck!

They would know by mail, you get a notice sent to you. I would just tell them and save yourself grief and frustration.
