is it so necessary to believe in the bible if one believes that there is g-d? i think that if you believe that you will go to hell for your misdeeds that you are not 'getting it.' it would be easier to think of our concept of g-d as the wonder of ALL life, EVERYWHERE. not that i am against atheists stating that there could not be g-d, because i think that they believe that religious people (not those trying to shove their bible thumping down your throat, just regular religous people) follow g-d only via the bible. there are many faults with the bible.
1. it was translated too many times.
2. the new testament was not even written until at least 50 years after christ died, and people did not live then as long as we live today.
3. many 'books' of gospel were not allowed to be included in the bible--they came into the church 'too late.'
4. the dead sea scrolls were not discovered for too long.
5. if you take the bible literally, it just makes no sense.
6. it is arrogan

6. it is so arrogant to believe that only WE were created in the image of g-d. what about life all over the place, including on other planets?
7. evolution makes sense, but it is true that no evidence exists of the missing link between apes and homo sapiens.
8. the ten commandments, to me, are simply good rules to live by.
9. i do not think that g-d would wish us to ruin the world with bombs and radiation.
10. scientific evidence and proof DOES make sense, but it doesn't explain it all. there are still thousands of mysteries, as well as many, many questions that arise when science 'proves' one thing, but does not follow it up with all surrounding sciences.
11. hell is created by people. karma kicks you in the butt for the evil deeds that you do, always. just watch.
12. so, how does karma come about?
13. in a way, that sounds like that saying
'g-d works in mysterious ways.'
thoughts from all? all are welcome to state their truth. but i do not think you have to yell.

so you know why i spell the word God by using g-d. it has been said that if you truly respect and love g-d, that g-d's name exists in your heart and that you are not to use it at all.

You are so right. It's very tiresome that the people on this forum assume that there are only two choices. Atheists and Christians do not own the copyright on beliefs. There are plenty of people who reject the bible and still believe in god.

Comments on your comments:
1) There are certain passages that indicate we are very close to the original text, for example the first 10 chapters of I Chronicles indicate original texts existed at the time Chronicles was written. These are only a few hundred years removed from the Dead Sea Scrolls.
2) This assumption is absurd and is based on a lack of evidence, not on actual evidence. Intuitively, there's little reason to believe that the books weren't written exactly as described.
3) Criticizing the Bible for leaving out books has no impact on the Bible itself. Most were considered bogus and read as if they really are.
4) Not sure what this means.
5) I take the Bible literally almost everywhere and it makes a lot of sense to me. The Bible is also consistent and profound.
6) Arrogance is a word used mostly by frustrated people who don't know what else to say. You have no basis to make such a claim of the writers, whom you've never met.

1. too many times? Why do you say that? what number is too many?
2.Alot of the new testament was written within 30 years of Christs death, if not all of it. alot of the books have prophecies tof the end of Jerusalem, which was in A.D. 70, but 40 years after Christs death.
3. Those books were not written by the inspiriation of the Holy Spirit. And if they came after the apostolic age, you bet they were too late. The apostalic age was the last time there would be anymore Bible. Read the last few verses of Revelation.
4.Dont know enough bout the dead sea scrolls to comment.
5. Yes the Bible makes complete sense. Have you ever read the westminster confession of faith by anychance? or Calvins Commentaries?
6.Huh.... You sound arrogant for a person who is wrong on at least a couple counts..

1. Modern translations fit the Dead Sea scrolls very accurately. Translations are made of the oldest of texts most of the time.
2. This is just not true...but is a popular myth that people like to trot out.
3. Another myth..."those" books were not deemed to be accurate or many times were forged to fit a groups agenda.
4. Huh? I don't know what you mean there.
5. Huh? Ditto
6. The Bible is arrogant? Lost me there too.
IF you believe in God do you not believe he could write a book and keep it accurate?

Without a standard by which to measure truth then who is it that you believe in, how do you know who God is, what keeps you from worshipping a rock or a snake? God is revealed in the bible. If you don't believe in the God revealed there then what besides your own reason do you have to justify a belief in God? How are you any different than an atheist, or do you believe that you can both be right?

Mormons at the instantaneous are not weird and wonderful and each person who says they are ought to verify their information! i'm not a Mormon yet my husband became baptized as a Mormon (he's not operating in the route of) and he's given me a miles extra open innovations on the topic of different religions because i'm a baptized Jehova's Witness (not operating in the route of). the reason human beings imagine Jehova's Witnesses and Mormons are weird and wonderful is because they are very strict human beings even as it contains their religions. case in point, starting to be up, i could not rejoice maximum vacation journeys and that i knocked on maximum of my classmates doors attempting to spread the message and for that i became labled "a peculiar Jehova's Witness", for sure i'm not weird and wonderful yet that became my faith to others. quite everyone seems in basic terms wondering that because Mormons experience round on motorcycles with white shirts, black pants and helmets attempting to spread the message, that they are weird and wonderful. that is not the case. I had 2 females in lengthy skirts come to my abode and they sang a really especially music for me and that i presumed they were very efficient those who recognized to be everyday. The assumptions are being made by technique of persons who've no concept about the religion. they are in basic terms happening what they imagine or listen.

God is a manmade concept, even the word god is only a human "name" or a label we've given to what we can't understand.Th finite can't comprhend the INFINITE. Life IS everlasting in the truest sense, our awarness never "dies" it's only re-focused.

Religion is an illusion and it derives its strength from the fact that it falls in with our instinctual desires.

They fear anarchy and need a reason to do good.
They need to feel that justice (vengeance) will be served on those they don't have any control over.
They need a reason to not commit suicide.
