I have stayed in Yemen for around a year.I have found the local people very receptive. It is a muslim country and local women wear veils. However my spouse stayed with me and was never asked to wear veil.
I have seen expats or foreigners wearing modern dresses like jeans in the open. The locals wear jeans etc under the veil.
The local Yemenis of Sana'a,Hodeidah,Aden are very courteteous and respectful towards the foreigners. At least my experience is good.
In short Yemen is far better and safer than Saudi Arabia.

I assume you mean their laws against kissing in public, women's dress, etc.? Yemen is a muslim country, very much like Saudi Arabia. Most of Yemen is rural and therefore conservative. I'd recommend reading up on Lonely Planet. And when you go, be sure to respect the culture. You don't want to get into trouble. Good luck!

Yemen is also an Islamic country but not much strict, while comparing with Saudi Arabia.

Yemen varies a lot. Generally the countryside is more traditional than the towns, and the North is more conservative than the South. It is a generally relaxed place. Don't confuse wearing a black dress and a veil as a sign of extreme religious views as it can be in other countries: Yemeni men often wear a kilt and Jambiyah, nothing religious in it - it is the custom of their country (and can even be a political statement - the communists who used to rule the South were very keen on trousers!). Women travellers I have met who buy the local dress in town there find the women talk to them, as they are seen as more 'respectable', and you can get instantly invited into the local social round of weddings and birthdays etc. This can get you all round the country! Women and young kids are by far in the majority in the streets and markets, and a lot of work in the shops & offices is done by women. Men tend to try and earn money abroad if they can.
