I think you're looking for Psalm 51:16-17 (David, after commiting adultery with Bathsheba):

'You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.'

You might try reading Matthew 5 & 6, and see if you find what you are looking for there.

Humility,...not 'brokenness".

However God does heal the broken hearted...and binds up their wounds.

And there are times when God Himself will wound ...but he then also heals.
