We have 5 cats and they all share the love of chewing plastic grocery bags.
Shopping day is their favorite day. They have the compulsion of routing through the bags and eventually if left at it long enough they chew on the bags.
What could be so tasty in plastic that they never miss a good chew?

my 2 cats enjoy sleeping in those same type of bags! my boy cat also likes boxes, and chews on those. i was told that they do things like that as a way of cleaning their teeth...how true it is,i don't know. also, i think they must like the noise that the plastic makes.

My cats do the same thing. I think they like the sound. I always empty the bags on grocery day and throw them all in the middle of the kitchen floor for the cats. They'll play for a good hour with them!

I thought my cat was the only one! wow, I can'y believe it's so common! I have 3 indoor cats, and have noticed only one of mine does this - it can be any type of plastic she has to have a chew! I assumed it was the texture of the sof plastic? All mine love to roll and hide inside the bag, but hate the noise of it rustling.... could be different for each cat. Just watch that your cat doesn't swallow any as this can cause intestinal blockages and can be fatal!

Actually, I believe it's not the taste of plastic that draws them, but the "crinkley" sound of the bag that amuses them. My kitty can be in another room, and when you crunch up a plastic shopping bag, she can't stand it, she has to come check it out! I think the noise of the bag gets the better of their natural curiosity!
You know, alot of cats won't come when called. But they WILL come running when you crunch up a shopping bag. Do you think we're on to something here?

I don't know, but mine do it too. Except they don't chew the grocery bags, they lick them to death. And my old girl will find, then roll on, my strawberries-like they're catnip, EVERY time!

Just curious they don't happen to be burmese or tonkinese do they? these 2 breeds tend to have fetishes for eating and playing with different materials.
