The Nazarene Statements of Belief are listed on this site http://www.nazarene.org/ministries/administration/visitorcenter/beliefs/display.aspx.
They are following a set of beliefs that are decided by man and not GOD. Some of those are contrary to the Biblical Scriptures that we are told to read, study, obey, and teach others.
They say: We believe that the Old and New Testament Scriptures, given by plenary inspiration, contain all truth necessary to faith and Christian living.
But we are told that the Old Law (Testament) is for our learning. Iit is not for us to follow, the New Testament became our law after Christ arose into heaven.
They say: We believe that the atonement through Jesus Christ is for the whole human race; and that whosoever repents and believes on the Lord Jesus Christ is justified and regenerated and saved from the dominion of sin.
The Bible says that To become a Christian:
1. HEAR - Romans 10:14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?
2. BELIEVE - In Mark 16:16, Jesus said “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.”
3. REPENT - Luke 13:3 I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.
4. CONFESS CHRIST - 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
5. BE BAPTIZED - Romans 6:3-4 do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
6. CONTINUE TO BE FAITHFUL - Jesus said in Matthew 7:21 "Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”
They say that: We believe that believers are to be sanctified wholly, subsequent to regeneration, through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. AND THAT: We believe that the Holy Spirit bears witness to the new birth, and also to the entire sanctification of believers.
I do not find any reference to these in the scriptures.
It is my belief that a person needs to find a Church that is named in the BIBLE and follows ONLY GOD's WORD, the Bible. That is what HE would expect of HIS Followers. Why don't you begin studying the scriptures that are written above and let me know if you have any questions. I will assist you in finding a local Church that follows HIS WORD if you are interested. Have a great weekend and LORD's DAY!
Thanks,
Eds
