A G-string or thong is a narrow piece of cloth or leather, or plastic that passes between the buttocks and is attached to a band around the hips, worn as a swimwear or underwear by both men and women. The two terms G-string and thong are often used interchangeably however, the primary difference between the two garments is that a g-string has less material between the legs, hence a string-like appearance. Variants of the thong or G-string include the V-string, a thong with a triangle "v" of cloth with the G-string between the legs, and the T-string, where a single string passes around the waist and between the legs, forming a T between the buttocks.

Thong or Toe-Post Sandals are similar to flip-flops, but have a heel. This type of shoe is mostly worn as a fashion item, or as evening wear. (Note: in Australia, Flip-Flops are referred to as 'thongs' and do not have a heel)

A thong is a type of lingerie/underwear. It's real skinny in the back, so it feels like a wedgie when you're not used to wearing one. T-backs and v-strings are much skinnier though, and more comfortable. Thongs can also refer to sandals, like flip-flops

Thongs were designed for men. They only have a problem with it because they are afraid of being labeled gay by the homophobes. 15% of the American male population wears thongs on a daily basis. Only 28% wear boxers. The rest wear either briefs or something else.
So, while thong wearing men are in the minority, they do exist and in large numbers. Women associate thongs with the female gender or gay men. When in fact, women have only been wearing thongs for about 80 years. men have been wearing them for thousands of years. In almost every ancient culture, men wore thongs. In Japan they are called Fundoshis and they have worn by warriors and athletes for thousands of years. Roman, Spartan, Mayan, Native American, and Samurai warriors/soldiers wore them as part of their official uniform. It was used as a jock strap, like modern athletes wear during big games.
Heck Scottish men wore, and still wear skirts (kilts) and it is considered very manly. So, go figure!
Women only started wearing thongs in the early 1900's because of a ordinance passed by the city of New York requiring female exotic dancers to cover their private areas. They made thongs for the dancers. From there, women adopted them and effectively "stole" them from men over the course of the last century.
Another thing to consider is functionality. Thongs are practical for men because they provide support without unnecessary fabric. They provide the freedom of movement and protection for the sensitive areas. They do less for women in that regard.
I think it is silly how women say men should not wear thongs because they are meant for women and are feminine looking. That would be like men saying that pants are meant for men and women should not wear pants. Or, working a job is manly thing and women should not work. You see, women are very one-sided on things. They want all the same legal and cultural privileges and rights as a man, but deny men the same.. maybe not legally deny them, but culturally deny them.
Bottom line, thongs were always meant for men up until recently. Women "stole" them and don't want to give them back. It's time the guys took them back by force!! In other words by sheer numbers!!!
