Soak them in hot water overnight if it's especially bad. If they're not teflon coated, try using an SOS Pad. You can buy them at the grocery store. They're detergent filled steel wool pads. Work like a charm, but just don't use them on non-metals.

Soaking the pan with hot water and dish soap over night. Then when you go to clean it, make sure you use a scouring pad to help remove the burnt stuff easier.
However, do not put soap and water into an iron skillet! It will ruine it! To clean an iron skillet, you can use cooking oil and kosher or rock salt and the scouring pad to scrub it down.

I agree with soaking the pan overnight. I don't always use dish soap when I soak it. Sometimes just water is enough to soak away burnt on food. It depends on the pan and on the food. If I have to "scrub" my teflon pans, I use wooden spoons for scraping so that the finish is not damaged.

Soft scrub is AWESOME. If you put some of that on the pan, the stuck on mess will come right out. Its so much better then having to use elbow grease scrubbing a pan.
You can buy it in any grocery store in the cleaning section. Its definitely worth it the money.

I usually just soak the pan overnight. But for future reference, lining the pan with aluminum foil will prevent this from happening, All you have to do is remove the foil and throw it away, and you've basically completed most of the clean up process.

Sprinkle the bottom of the pan with dishwasher detergent. Add
a little water. Let it soak, the longer the better. Brush it off
and rinse it clean.

Heat the pan on medium & add water. It will come off easily and be easier to clean. If it's really caked on, soak it for as long as you need.
But that stuff is gold if you dont burn it, full of flavor!
