My kitten (11 weeks old) has ringworm above her eye. We are treating it now, but the problem is that i noticed the bald patch or fur above her eye and thought it was just a scratch so i didnt treat it right away. I have been cudling her, petting her, and she even sleeps on my chest at night. Will I get it too? How do i avoid getting it? also, will it give me bald patches on my head?

Some cats and kittens have thin hair above the eye anyway. Yes, you can get ringworm from the kitten and if it gets on your head it will cause a bald patch cause the fungal infection causes hair loss at the site. Just be sure to wash your hands thoroughly after holding her or petting her is really all you can do to prevent infection. If you are treating it then you may or may not get it and there is no indication whether or not you would get it on your head. I had an older cat last year who had ringworm and I did get it but only a few small circles on my legs. They weren't big and didn't really spread and the anti fungal cream cleared it right up. I wouldn't worry about it too much but be sure to clean your house to get rid of the spores that cause ringworm. They can linger in the house for some time even after it's gone and can cause reinfestation.

Ringworm and Animals
Interesting Fact!
Ringworm is not a worm at all. It is a disease caused by a fungus.
What is ringworm?
Ringworm is a skin and scalp disease caused by several different kinds of fungi. Ringworm on the scalp usually makes a bald patch of scaly skin. People with ringworm on other parts of their skin can have a ring-shaped rash that is reddish and may be itchy. The rash can be dry and scaly or wet and crusty.
Can animals transmit ringworm to me?
Yes, many different kinds of animals can transmit ringworm to people. Ringworm is transmitted from direct contact with an infected animal's skin or hair. Dogs and cats, especially kittens or puppies, can have ringworm that can be passed to people. Cows, goats, pigs, and horses can pass ringworm to people too. People can also get ringworm from other people and their personal items.

I rescued a stray kitten who had a whole bunch of patches of fur missing which I just thought were war wounds from living on the street but a month or so later I realized it was ringworm when I found it on my body. We are both better now, I needed medication but she healed on her own (it was gone on her before mine showed up). All her fur grew back in the places it was missing and the vet tested her and she is negative for ringworm now. I would suggest you take your cat to the vet and see a doctor yourself.

YES! You can get ringworm! it is a fungus that is highly contageous. If you pet your kitten wash your hands every time. Also you can get other types of worms from your kitten or dog if they have them. It's rare in those cases, but it happens. Talk to your vet about animal bacteria, virus's, etc.

Yes you can get ringworm too... if you do, you will get scaly round patches that spread, and usually they are very itchy but not always. You'll typically get them on your hands, or on your chest since she sleeps there. Athlete's foot cream (TInactin, Lotrimin AF) can be used to treat human ringworm, but DON'T use it on your cat, get cat-safe product at the vet. We don't lick it off like they do. Best way to avoid it is frequent hand washing and don't sleep with her till she's over it.

Go to the drug store and get Tincture of Iodine and apply it to the ringworm. It will get rid of it. It's cheap and very effective. You can use it on your pet and on yourself if need be. It works better than any of the prescriptions they give you.
