I haven't given that question much thought. I don't doubt that many religious people are quite genuine in their beliefs, including the perception that they love and are loved by "God". Frankly, I think this is a kind of delusional thinking. I expect all theists will give me thumbs down for saying that, and some may even feel so insulted they will report me. Let me just say that I think *everyone* suffers from various kinds of delusions. And heck, how do you expect any atheist to explain why some religious people are seemingly so sure in their beliefs, and sure of their claims of having "experienced god"? The only explanation consistent with atheist belief is that the religious person is delusional. End of story. And of course, religious people will say that atheists are "blind", or have "closed their heart", or are "in denial". Or are delusional. So yes, I honestly believe that many religous people honestly feel that they love God. I just don't think that what they believe is reality.

I see god all the time, I see life unfold, I see things happen, I see the now Still Being.
"I don't believe people are capable of loving an unseen deity even if they believe in Him."
If you dont see god you dont know god. But A deity is a God far off somewhere else when god is not seperate from us. We are god. People are scared to believe it. Love yourself and everyone around you then you are capable of loving god because you see god all the time.

I have seen a lot of men fake their religious beliefs to go to church to either find a wife or impress a girl. And have used the religion for their own gain. The bible talks about " false" people within the church. However there are more sincere believers that truly love and worship God in their hearts and show it in the way they live and treat others.

most preachers over church are hustlers and don't believe in god themselves. Especially today when everyone wants to be popular as T.D.Jakes. In the process it doesn't matter if they are fake or not because they are still teaching the word of god.
In the bible, I don't know the precise words but it talks about a story. How people hated Jesus and wanted to be better than him. So what they did was went out in false hearted actions and began preaching. It didn't matter to Jesus because they were still preaching the word of Christ.
(I don't believe in religion) because i don't believe that anyone living can tell me whats going to happen after death.
But yeah! people want to believe in something in order to feel comfort. but there are perpetrators

understanding believers understand that atheists do no longer hate God. Atheists do no longer renowned God in any respect, hence ought to do not have any opinion of Him. besides the undeniable fact that, it is troublesome to settle for that no longer anybody believes that God exists. each and every individual has already been given God's essence and knowledge. The atheist view appears like a pathetic excuse to stay their existence besides the undeniable fact that they please with none consequences. "i am going to placed my guidelines of their minds and write them on their hearts. i'd be their God, and they are going to be my people. now no longer will they prepare their friends, or say to at least one yet another, 'understand the Lord', because they are going to all understand Me, from the least of them to the mind-blowing". generally i don't think Atheists and other nonChristian give a rats azz how sincere a Christian is. the main concern of nonChristians is to not be forced into a Christian theocracy (official or defacto) and to be represented as equal citizens of the country in which they reside and pay taxes to support. when a politician uses his or her religion just to pander to the easily duped it can be a concern. look how easily Rove got the Christians to vote for a failure like GW just by having him wear Jesus as a beauty queen's sash.

I do think a small number of people fake religious belief for social benefit, yes. And a much larger number of people either fake it or never denounce it just to avoid discrimination.
I think it's true more times than you realize.

Yes. Especially those who argue to accept and love god for arguments akin to pascal's wager. It is mercenary, I know.
