im still in high school, male, 5 ft11in, 170lb. If someone asked meh, i would consider myself as being fit but whenever i would sit i would have fat sticking out of my stomach and im not confident enough to take my shirt off at the beach. i just started running around my neighborhood for about 40 min everyday. My neighborhood is pretty hilly so i do run at an incline but my question is, how long do i have to do this to get results? I plan on doing this till the summer so i can be confident at the beach. Anyways, is there anything im not doing that i should doing or am i doing anything wrong?? My main goal would be to loose fat around my abdominals and obliques.

First and foremost, you make no mention of your diet, which is the most critical part of any fitness "plan." Since you're trying to lose weight, you want to cut down on the calories (here's a link which will help you determine what your daily caloric intake needs to be to achieve your goals) and do 3-5 sessions of 20-30 minutes high intensity cardio per week.

You do not need to do 40 minutes running around your neighborhood on an easy route; instead choose a hard form of exercise (hopefully you have a gym near you that you could go to) and engage in 20-30 minutes of HIGH INTENSITY cardio. This way you will be burning a lot more calories after the workout.

You cannot target where you lose fat, but adhering to the principles of a healthy diet, and consistent cardio--which all works to improve you metabolism--will prove sufficient.

You need to change your workout, eat a high protein diet with little carbs, drink plenty of water, and do interval training, run slow and than fast for a couple of minutes and do that a couple of times a week. If that won't help, go to newfundiet.com, they have some more tips.
