because too many stupid people starting fires and blowing fingers off. you cant just punish the ones doing the crime , you have to punish everyone for someone elses actions or lack of.

I live in Pinellas County_FLA and they are banned here. Because- if the rainfall is lower than a certain percentage, they have to ban anything that "lifts off the ground" to prevent fires. There is always a reason- fires, too many deaths, accidents, ect...The counties next to us- they are not banned, but you cannot go there and buy them without a "fish breeding"license (which they never ask for) and shoot them off in Pinellas County (well you could-but it is illegal) because you can be taken to jail...look it up or call the sheriffs office.

Same reason they were banned in a lot of other public places. SOMEBODY deemed them unsafe unless handled by professionals. Makes sense though, a lot of people were getting hurt playing with them. On the one hand I do not like anyone dictating to me what is or is not safe for me, but on the other hand, they DO have our well being in mind when making these laws.

Other than stupidity, I can't think of anything. Everybody gets whatever they want anyway. They aren't legal for state residents to buy, but other states don't have to keep you from buying. So NY residents go to PA, PA residents go to OH or MD. A PA resident can't legally purchase in his own state, but he can go to OH. An OH resident can't purchase there, but a PA resident can if he says that he's taking it out of state. There are sellers in PA, but if you're from PA they'll throw you out of the store. OH residents are welcome though, even though the same stuff is illegal back home. I have to laugh, it's such a freaking riot. For the most part the police couldn't care less.

Gotcha, at least you didn't say pubic. Have you seen how many people in Ohio are missing fingers.

Really next time your out and about check out how many people are missing digits, and you will have a better understanding why Ohioans just can't be messing around with explosives.

You can check your state laws, but in general fireworks get banned because they are a major fire hazard, and a lot of people have been seriously hurt by them.
