They are both fine in moderation, as are many other fruits and vegetables. No grapes or raisins and definitely, no chocolate.

I'm adding as link to a great web site that you can print and keep on your fridge, so the you and the rest of your family know what you should never feed your dog.

I don't know about watermelon but carrots have the same benefits to dogs as they do human vitamin a and if you leave your dog food bag open to the air, I strongly suggest you feed your dog carrots, because vitamin A leaches out of bagged dog food left open and your dog can go blind early.

Carrots are great for dogs. Watermelon... it won't hurt them. A bit sweet and could give them the runs, though. *shrugs*

And don't listen to that "human food" comment. Vegetables, meat, etc... they aren't exclusively for humans. Other animals eat, too. And dog food is made of "human foods" (in fact, most are made of low quality "human food"... so what you eat is generally better for them). Just don't overly season/cook the carrots (or any other "human" food), as that's what usually causes a problem.

And as someone else said... grapes are bad. As are onions, most nuts, most dried fruit, garlic, broccoli, etc...

I've never heard of watermelon hurting dogs (it is mostly water) and carrots are a recommended treat. All foods should be taken on a case by case basis though. Grapes, for one, are toxic for dogs.

My vet told me that the only thing to watch out for was what he called sweet fruits (grapes bananas etc) because they (dogs) don't have the same abilities as we have when it come to breaking down the sugars. Or avoid things like peppers and onions. This will upset their tummies. but otherwise if they want it let them have it. IN MODERATION.

carrots are great treats for dogs, they are not as fattening as dog treats as well. Watermelon might not be as beneficial, but in small amounts it should be okay on occassion.
