I am engaged to the most wonderful guy in the world. He is half filipino and I am getting married in less than 2 weeks. They are very traditional in his family, what are some things I need to learn about filipeno traditions and things? I'm american. I look kind of like him, people think we're family or something but I'm still 100% american and kind of clueless about all this. What is the most important thing to a filipeno guy about his wife? What can I do to make sure his mom always likes me?

I suggest you try learning basic Tagalog and also try cooking Filipino dishes(It will show how interested you are). Help out in the chores without being asked (my mom likes that a lot) and don't forget to say 'po' and 'opo'. They are signs of respect, the same with putting the back of their hands to your forehead as some form of greeting. ('opo' translates to 'Yes, maam/sir/etc.')

Here are some basic Filipino to get you started:

*Salamat po = 'Thank you' is 'Salamat' but the 'po' at the end makes it more respectful, 'po' doesn't exactly have a direct translation, it just makes what you say respectful.

*Pasensya na po/ Paumanhin po = Sorry

*Paki- = is a prefix that you add before a Filipino verb. It means 'please'. Example: Paki-pasa po ng(pronounced 'nang') tubig. (Please pass the water.)

Oh, and I love you in Filipino is 'Mahal Kita', but only if you are referring to only one person. If you want to say 'I love you' to his family, it's 'Mahal Ko Kayo'.
