I just purchased a 1997 Ford Explorer and I dont have an owners manual. I want to buy one of those keyless entry remotes from ebay.com but I dont know my entrance code, how can I get that? and also do you think those remotes from ebay actually work? I also wanted to get a alarm system but I dont wanna spend alot of money on one, do you know of any places that I can go to get one put in at a resonable price, or can I put it in myself? I really would appreciate only mature answers please, thank you sooo much!

First off, as Ethol has already advised, there are SEVERAL different Ford remotes to suit different vehicle applications, so if you happen to purchase the incorrect one for your particular vehicle, you're SOL. Secondly, to obtain your keyless entry keypad code, you can either take it to your local Ford dealership service department, where they will hook up NGS, PDS, WDS, or IDS (whichever scan tool they use) and "pull" the code for you, for whatever fee they charge. Or, simply pull the left rear access panel off, in the luggauge compartment, the one the spare tire jack handle is attached to. As others have already advised, with a small mirror in hand, look inside the opening, and you will see the RAP (remote anti-theft personality) module, with a label on it. There are a series of numbers, one of which will look similar to F77B-15K602-AA, and another set of FIVE NUMBERS. Those five numbers are your keypad entry code. As far as aftermarket alarm systems are concerned, like Ethol advised, I'm not a big fan of aftermarket alarm systems, due to the fact that the poor installation quality I've seen is really scary. They tend to cause other issues with the vehicle after its installation. Again, like Ethol advises, it's proabably not going to serve that much of a purpose, since most people these days won't even take a second look when an alarm goes off. If you have any further questions, you can e-mail me.

1st of all, lets get you an owners manual. Here's the link to download it:
https://web.msslib.dealerconnection.com/RightSite/getcontent/myfile.pdf?DMW_OBJECTID=09000c5880006783
I recommend that you download the whole thing & save it to your computer for future reference.
2ndly...don't bother with the e-bay remotes. they MIGHT work...they might not...it doesn't matter how cheap they are iif they don't work. If you buy them at a Ford dealer, You'll know that they WILL work. Since there are several different Ford remotes, if you get the wrong part number & it doesn't work , then you're just S.O.L. Once you get the RIGHT part number (I don't have it for you but I'm going to refer you to Rakel for that) the owners manual tells you exactly how to program it.
3rd part of your question ... (entrance code) do you mean that you have the keypad on the door & don't know the code ?
If that's what you're asking, the code is printed on a module but I don't know the exact location of the module.....but (I'm sure) Rakel will know. She probably will know the exact part number (& probably the price too) for the remotes.
I'm going to e-mail your question to Rakel & see if she can help you out as well.
In the meantime Download that manual for yourself, OK?
Lastly, about the alarm system..... I'm not a big fan of aftermarket alarms. I really don't think anybody pays that much attention to them anymore (when they go off) . So unless you live (or work, or travel) in an area were car theft is a major concern, I don't see the point. But I'll leave that part of your Q up to other answerers.

I hope this helps. & I hope Rakel can be of further assistance to you. I'll shoot your Q to her now.

You don't want a keyless entry remote. It works on radio frequency. RF is the latest greatest hack. Someone with a scanner can get your key when you push the remote.

But yes, a car dealer can provide keys and codes with adequate proof that you are the owner.

I have heard if you take the rear left tool panel off, where the jack is stored, the remote numbers are inside there, I havent checked and I have a 98 explorer, yes you can get the remotes off of ebay for cheap.

I have one and it has it's own passive alarm system. The code for the keyless pad is on the back side of the rear window washer water tank in the left rear panel. use a mirror to read it or remove the plastic tank, hope this helps :)

I would go to the dealer to get the entrance code. Places like Best Buy and others who do radio and speaker installation in cars also do auto alarms. They know about car wiring, have the tools, it is right down their alley.

If you have a key pad on the door, a computer put on your expedition can give you the code.
The remote might be cheaper at a dealer than e-bay.
