I have a '97 and both O2 sensors failed. The check engine light came on and I saw no effect on the engine operation. I did see a drastic reduction in gas mileage. This is why it is important when the engine light comes on to have it scanned and the problem pinpointed. You can throw a lot of money at an engine by guessing what is wrong and replacing the wrong parts.

Usually no but can depending on the application, it measures the exhaust mixture for over lean or over rich conditions,so usually another problem causes the 02 sensor code such as poor maint. dirty air filter, faulty plugs, wires, faulty injector or dirty injectors or the 0s sensor it self is faulty 1 or both. A number of things can cause it to show a code even down to a clogged cat converter.I would be sure the truck is up to par tune up wise and replace the sensor, if it persist I would move to the fuel injection sensors

No, a bad oxygen sensor wont do that. It is either the spark or fuel problem, if it is a fast cutoff then it is the spark, a fuel problem the engine will slow down, but not completely cut off. Could be clogged fuel injectors also.

In my experience, the Oxygen Sensor will effect the idle and not when you are actually driving..especially at that speed. It can effect take off but not when you are going 70 mph

yes it will it will cause it to just about die out,and then take off once it takes the gas,a bad throttle position sensor will also do a similar thing also, the best way to find out is take it to auto zone and have them scan the computer on it,its free, and they are good at it ,and it will find the bad sensor or what ever is causing this to happen to it,but if i was you before i started buying parts you might not need just have them scan it,then you,ll know for sure, good luck,i hope this help,s
