We keep learning. Our forefathers fathers were burning witches, and we don't do that, either.

The "fathers and forefathers" of whom you are referring to (that founded the USA) were Deists, Freemasons and atheists in the majority.

"In God We Trust" wasn't put on U.S. currency until about 180 years after the founding of the USA.

The gods of our fathers and forefathers (farther back then the 1700s) are largely no longer followed because the Christian religion did all it could to stamp out alternative faiths once it gained enough power in the 300s, and still tries to this day.

If that is truely the way you feel... I like you a lot.

But "In God We Trust is the current national motto of the United States. It was declared as such by an act of Congress in 1956"

Hahaha. Actually, I do believe in the Gods and Goddesses that MY ancestors did. My ancestors were from Denmark and Iceland!

And no, the founding fathers of the US were not Christians, they were deists mainly and they believed in freedom to practice whatever religion or lack there of you wanted.

P.S. The motto "In God We Trust" was added much later, about 180 years later.

You're off by about 180 years.

You must have been sleeping during your history classes when you were in school. The motto was a knee knee jerk reaction to McCarthyism (Look it up). This country was founded upon freedom of religion. I don't believe in God. I am free to do so.

Either you're lying for your god, or you've been misled by people who did.

the motto was introduced into the pledge in 1956, in an attempt to capitalize on the fear of communism.

most of the founding fathers were deists, not christians.

The god of Judaism/Christianity replaced the gods of his believers' forefathers.

Gary,

As much as you might wish that he did, Madison never said anything of the kind. Here is something he did say however:

"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprize, every expanded prospect."

If the Bible is true (for argument sake), then these people would have to change their lifestyle in acceptance with God's way. By not accepting this truth, this gives them the freedom to live their life they way THEY CHOOSE. This allows them to dull their conscience without guilt.

The Bible IS TRUTH.
