I agree with the first 2 answers... Nuby are the best transition cups because of the soft spout. But be aware that they do leak really easily, especially as your child gets older and learns to shake it and turn it upside down for fun -- or chews on the spout.

As your child becomes older, I recommend the Gerber sippy cups. They have a really nice valve insert that is easy to pop in and out, and it keeps the cup from leaking too much. I never really cared for the valve system in other sippy cups, like Playtex for example. Gerber's always worked best for us. Oh, and you can find them with a hard spout *OR* a rubber spout. It's not as soft as the Nuby, but still flexible, for when/if you decide to take the next step toward a valved cup.

Hope that helps... good luck!

most sippy cups( those with the stoppers) are a lot like bottles, they require that the child suck on them to get the drink out. using these for a short period of timeis best. They make sippy cups with straws that work well. kids think of these more as big kid cups. if you son is very young try the sippy cups that have handles.

First start with the nubby, It feels like a bottle and yet it is shaped like a sippy cup so it'll help him to adjust better and in between giving him that give him a sippy cup here and there and eventually he won't even know the difference!

the purely thanks to attempt that's toss the bottles. If he's off milk some days it is going to likely be nice. i imagine maximum little ones refuse milk from a sippy in the start. you are able to attempt including a flavor so it would not flavor like a bottle. a touch of the chocolate or strawberry received't damage him. Bottles at his age get tougher to take by technique of the day for some reason. Its not the cup he hates, its in basic terms the change. good success mom.

nubbys are good.. i used them on my first son who is almost 2...
but the ones with the straws are better...i have a 9month old and has started drink out of a straw.... so he only gets a bottle right before bed time.... let him try out both a sippy cup(hard or soft top) and the one that has a straw..which ever one he likes then buy those kind... maybe try to find one that has something on it that he likes... i did that with my first one as well...

Gerber sippy cup with two handles. Both my kids liked the soft rubber spout & the handles made it easy for them to hold.

My experience was using one that was not a spill proof one. They have to really suck hard on the spill-proof ones and mine did not really know what to do. I switched to the ones that were not spill proof (mine were the tupperware ones) and they did so much better and accepted the cup very easily. After a little while, then I switched to the spill-proof ones. You really have no idea how hard it is to get anything out of those until you try to drink out of them yourself.

Nuby--get them at Walmart, the tops are soft like a bottle and they're only about a buck and a half each.

Nuby's are great to start the transition with, when he gets used to them, try Gerber or Playtex, they are really great and never leak. I just started my daughter on the ones with the straws in them and she loves them. But I wouldnt recommend those for the transition.

Yes the Nubby! They are almost leak proof, very very cheap, very easy to clean (which makes them more sanitary), and I have never seen one break. They come in different styles, so I would recommend picking up one of each and seeing which one he likes the best.
