Self teacher. Religion is man made and I don't agree with much of their teachings.

I have taught my children the Bible, but not because there is some good stories in there, but because I consider it Life's Instruction Book. We have a Christian home and it is part of our faith. Attending a church is a good thing because it provides a "family" to your children as a body of believers. They love and support you through prayer and fellowship.

Allow them to explore whichever religious texts and beliefs they are interested in. Make sure they understand that these are beliefs and not facts.
Congratulations for not spiritually abusing your children the way so many parents do (forced to be part of the parents' beliefs instead of thinking things through for themselves).

I teach my children to read. Then I show them my bookshelf and say, "Help yourself. Enjoy."
There are several Bibles on my bookshelf, along with books on neurobiology, anthropology, history, language, poetry, comparative religion, theology, evolution and many other topics.

I think the Bible is a horribly violent and scary book that teaches children to hate and fear. I hope I never have to show it to them.

I am an atheist with a 7 year old son. We have read a children's bible (a gift from his Catholic grandmother) with him. He likes the stories. We discuss what we read and, like us, he's confused at the discrepancies and contradictions in the bible. We like that he questions. When we spend time with Grandma, she talks to him about what's he's read and gives him her take on it. He's a gifted kid, so he's pretty good at reasoning it out.
We also have read science related books, books about evolution, animals, etc., and he likes those, too.
Just remember, kids are born with an inherent sense of right and wrong. Merely taking them to church and reading the bible won't automatically instill in them good principals about life. They will learn that from you.
We get many many compliments from servers at restaurants and just people out in public about how well-behaved and patient my son is. He helps people without being asked and is very good with please and thank you. The bible didn't give him that.... neither would a church have given him that. We gave him that, just by being parents.
I'd just be sure to provide balance... the bible is a good book with wonderful stories. Science is real.
