Ya, he has one. But he is older than I am and I don't know how to text message and neither does he. In fact he has the same kind of phone that I do. The one you keep only for emergencies and never have turned on.

I know the Pope has an iPod but I'm not sure about a cell phone.

However the Pope sends daily messages to everyone who wants to receive them. See this news story:

Verizon Wireless is launching a new cell phone service in the United States on Wednesday that will allow subscribers to receive messages from the pope. http://news.com.com/2100-1039_3-5185965.html

He has also called people by cell phone:

Terminally ill patient thankful for cell phone call from Pope http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/new.php?n=4174

With love in Christ.

As the leader of the Catholic Church I would have to say no.
I think to be Pope first you have to be a priest, then rise up the ranks to be Pope. As all priests take a vow of poverty, owning a cell phone should be out of the question. If he does have a cell phone, it must in line with the vow of poverty, be owned by the Catholic church.
