I'd really like manzanita. It has to be a floor stand, not table top or cage top. The only ones I've found were almost $200 and that's not even including s&h.

I meant play, not lay. Why do I always do that!

Byw, manzanita isn't a kind. It's a wood. That doesn't grow in MD. And it's hard to find.

Have you checked eBay? How about your local classifieds?

What species of bird do you have? Manzanita can be slippery and some birds have a problem staying on the perch.

Building your own is an inexpensive alternative but be careful to use only materials that are non-toxic.

Expect most birds to tear up the wood etc. It's part of their normal, instinctive behavior.

I agree with every-ones recommendation that you can make a nice stand for very little money. Walmart stores have in-expensive furniture that you can put together. I bought a small kitchen cabinet on wheels. With a little ingenuity, you can make the top to suite your needs. I recommend that you cover the original surface of the cabinet which will make clean up easier. Look at some play gyms and make yours unique. It really isn't hard to do. Find a local boy scout troop that needs a project and something they can earn a badge for - it's a win-win situation.

a good cheap place to get materials are bird fairs and shows. you can usually find them by google bird fair, and your area. that's where we got our manzanita, it was still expensive but we saved about $75. plus it's fun to see what other people have out there for their birds.

Build it yourself or have a friend build it for you, using the manzanita as a model.

I would go to a store like Pet warehouse or Petco where you can get small play gyms for about $20.

You can make a gym yourself. You can use pvc pipe and pine wood....Birds are the best at chip and chewing....

Find one in a magazine and copy it....it is alot cheaper and it is fun to play with tools!

Have fun!
