Yes, chocolate can kill dogs. I don't know why people are saying "no". That's common knowledge.

However, yes, it depends on the dog's weight and how much they eat and what kind of chocolate. Dark chocolate is more hazardous because it has more cocoa and isn't dilluted with milk. Likewise, milk chocolate has very little actual chocolate.

Dogs basically act like they're on crack... Their heart-rate goes up, they become hyper... and then their heart explodes. If you dog eats chocolate, induce vomiting (pour hydrogen peroxide down his/her mouth - keep doing it every 30 seconds or so until everything just comes out) then get him to a vet. The sooner you make him vomit, the less he digests, and the less chance there is that it'll cause harm.

Things like Oreo cookies, etc... don't really have much chocolate, so you usually don't have to worry about that unless they eat A LOT. Hershey's milk chocolate and most major brands in the US are so cheaply made that they have pretty much no actual chocolate, so they're usually *fairly* safe, as long as the dog doesn't eat a substantial amount.

To a certain extent , it depends on how much your dog ate ..also how big is your dog ? An it is true that chocolate can kill your dog , if they eat allot , I have a toy dog that is 6 - 8 lbs and steals little bars of Halloween chocolates she is still here !!! Dark chocolate is just a more rich type of chocolate, so just watch the dog after and watch for signs of drooling and erratic behaviour , they are normally fine , but too much can over dose

It is harmful if a dog eats chocolate. The darker the chocolate, the more pure it is. The more pure the more damage it does. Dogs don't metabolize the way humans do. So death may be a possibility, but unlikely. Though it really depends on the amount ingested.

It depends how much chocolate compared to the weight of the dog. If it's a big dog and it didn't eat more than a couple of ounces, no big deal.

Dark chocolate does have more of the harmful chemical theobromine in it, but in most cases the dog will simply throw up the offending food. If your dog seems to be urinating too much or having seizures, get them to a vet ASAP.

no, unless you give it a massive amount. It's ok to give your dog a little bit of chocolate. Its not good to get into the habit of it because chocolate is processed and its not good for anyone. (Although its mmmmm)

The amount of chocolate you can give your dog depends on how big it is. If you haeva a huge beast than you could prob give her half a normal size hershey bar. If you have a poodle you prob wouldnt want to give here anymore than half a square inch.

Chocolate in and of itself is not the problem. Its the amount that you give,

They can, and they do not have to eat very much in order to do harm. Dark chocolate is higher in theobromine and caffeine (they toxic parts of chocolate) than milk chocolate, so they have a higher chance of dieing from eating it. Bakers chocolate is the worse of all of them, then semi-sweet, then dark, and then milk. White chocolate will not harm the dog because it does not contain either of the toxic parts of normal chocolate, but it still is not good to give to them due to the high sugar and fat content.

A dog can get sick from eating chocolate, and it is possible for a dog to die under extreme circumstances, but it is not very common.

It depends on how much chocolate and what size your dog is. The caffeine in the chocolate speeds up their heart rate and chocolate naturally contains theobromine which is what can kill the dog. If it just happened, take the dog to the vet right away to have them induce vomiting.

Yes, actually. Very small amounts tend to not be toxic as long as they throw it up. I'd still take them to the vet just to be sure. Yes, though, it is indeed bad for them. Not just dark chocolate, fyi, any kind of cocoa substance. Fudgicles included. My mother dropped a peice of something chocolate (I think cake) on the floor one time and my dog got into it. It was a tiny amount, but it still made him very ill and he threw up alot. Alot of dogs don't recover so well, so I would definitely be concerned if he got into some. You might as well give him rat poison if you feed him chocolate.

Yes, if he eats enough of it. Chocolate IS toxic to dogs, the darker the chocolate the more cocoa is in it, so the more toxic it is. Baker's chocolate is the worst for a dog to get into, highest cocoa concentration.
