Mythbusters (http://dsc.discovery.com/fansites/mythbusters/mythbusters.html ) tested this one out with a shotgun and various loads, including a squib (blank).
Result: In real life, "Bugs" would have his hand blown away, the gun barrel MIGHT deform slightly, and the shooter would be unharmed.
Summary of episode follows:
"
Cartoon Myth: If you stick your finger in the barrel of a gun, the gun will explode. The shooter will be injured but you will be fine.
There was a great cartoon done for this myth that featured reinterpretations of Adam's "Am I missing an eyebrow?" quote and Jamie's "Quack, damn you" quote.
Setup
* Shotgun with remote control trigger
* Ballistics gel hand with a skeleton cast inside of it for rigidity. The hand was attached to Buster.
* Ballistics gel bust for the shooter The bust was made from a cast of Grant.
Tory: "Coming up on MythBusters"
Kari: "Can we get Grant out of this mold?"
The Tests
Test 1 (gel hand): Buster's gel finger was stuck inside the shotgun barrel. The entire hand was blown apart with no damage to the shotgun.
Test 2 (wax hand): They used a stronger ballistic hand made of wax to plug the barrel. The wax hand was blown apart but the shotgun barrel was ballooned slightly.
At this point they declared the myth busted and moved on to trying to replicate the myth. They wanted to get a 'banana peel' result by firing the shotgun.
Test 3 (dirt): Tory stuffed the barrel of a shotgun with dirt. The end of the barrel peeled back slightly, but the shooter was fine.
Test 4 (Steel spike): They welded a steel spike into the barrel. The gun shot the spike out with only minor damage to the end of the barrel.
Test 5 (squib load): A squib load is a bullet that doesn't have enough gunpowder to exit the barrel. Jamie hammered a bullet into the end of the barrel. The end of the barrel bulged, but it didn't banana peel.
Not only was this myth busted, but MythBusters failed at even replicating the result of this myth.
mythbusted While it was cool that they ballooned the end of the barrel, it didn't explode, the hand was blown apart, and the shooter was safe.

Obviously, Bugs is going to get the worst of it. And bunny toes or fingers are not like Bugs' digits, but a significant obstruction will cause an overpressure in the barrel. It might not hurt the gun, it might blow the primer or make extraction difficult, or it might even burst the action or barrel. It's hard to tell what would happen with a double-barrel shotgun that never needs reloading and shoots elastic bullets.

It never happened. Bugs and Fudd are fictional characters who have never existed except in Walt Disney's imagination.
If one were to stick his finger into a gun muzzel the best case scenario, he would loss a finger. Worst case scenario, the gun bursts, he loses his hand and the debris would blind him.
Don't take for fact anything you see on TV, Hollywood, or hear people say. People used to believe that open carry was legal in Texas. It has not been legal since the days of the Old West. It is not legal now, you have to have a concealed carry permit and you must carry concealed, not open. Exceptions: Uniformed Police Officers and security guards licensed to carry on duty and in full uniform, period.
More recently, certain fools are perpetrating the belief that silencers are not illegal. Get caught with one and see what happens Class 3 license or not. Try to explain to Homeland Security what you are doing with a silencer.

ADDENDUM: Blanks will injury you also, as flesh and bone will not contain the detonation of a blank. People have been killed by blanks.

Regardless you will lose a finger. A human cannot jam a finger into a barrel well enough to not allow air passage, air passage is what would make the bullet going whizzing out, and you losing a finger. Mythbusters did a show about this very myth.

You lose a finger. If it was a blank you'll only lose part of your finger.
The gun's barrel will likely be damaged (warped, cracked, even split). There isn't as much compression in blank round, so the damage to the gun as well as your finger won't be as severe, but still by no means "pristine".

Myth Busters actually did a show on this. It blows up the finger, not the gun.
