It breaks my heart to hear people say that dogs dont belong inside with the rest of the family... Dogs are pack animals, they do NOT ever live alone, sleep alone, eat alone, play alone etc unless they are forced to. They thrive on social interaction daily 24/7... not just when its conveinient to us humans. When will people realize that we owe dogs so much more than a life in a kennel or cage, or on the end of a chain away from the people they love unconditionally, and long to be with every second of every day. The saddest part is dogs dont live as long as we humans do so we should cherish what little time they have on this earth and we should have them by our sides as much as we can.. of course we all have to work, and leave home occasionally but what is the point of leaving your dog out of your life when you are home??

Agreed. Humans are generally dicks.

So, people domesticated dogs and keep them as pets... but ***** that they're "lower" and belong outside... Oh, and the outside thing... "they're animals, they belong outside". Well, if that's your logic, then they belong in a pack, away from human civilization, running free... Being chained up outside doesn't really simulate the habitat of a wild animal who belongs outside. You can't have it both ways. But that's irrelevant anyway, as they're domesticated.

Dogs are weaker (even in the rare case that they aren't physically, they are in the sense that humans control the society they live in), and people CHOOSE to have a dog as a pet... therefore, they owe the dog everything. The same with human children... It always bugs me when parents act like their children owe them anything when, really, it's the other way around... it was the parents' decision to bring a child into the world, so its their responsibility to make sure the child is loved and cared for (even if it means sacrificing their own well-being) even without getting anything in return. The same with dogs... if you aren't willing to treat the dog with love and respect and as a family member, you have no business getting a dog in the first place.

Just because dogs aren't humans doesn't mean they aren't sentient beings who are both loving and need to be loved.

Interesting thougths, but i don't understand my cat, and neither do i understand ants, or sharks, or squids. So going by your theory, then God does not understand me, which is quite possible i suppose. I agree, that if there were a God, then we couldn't begin to understand the nature of that God. How could we begin to understand the nature of an omnipotent being? i don't even understand my own nature a lot of the time, or the people around me, and i dont know why i am here or what, exactly, i am. And why do you think that animals don't have a spirit? Animals are spirit creatures too.. havent you walked through a forest at night? ;-) All the best, zag

I am so glad I came across this question! I was just telling a good friend of mine a few weeks ago about how outstanding dogs are. I was thinking to myself one day while washing the dishes how Jesus would so much want humans to have the important traits of a dog. Dogs are very forgiving (if one slaps a dog, 2 seconds later he's licking the same hand that slapped him). A dog is 99% faithful to the master or masters. A dog loves unconditionally to even lay down his own life for his master or masters. A dog protects at all times; never letting his guard down when a stranger approaches. I know, I own a Yellow Lab and a German Shepherd. 2 opposite dogs but they have the same strong traits. Humans can learn a lot from dogs and dogs are intelligent animals; they are not dumb. Thank you for your question and comment. And thank you for giving me the opportunity to post my answer and opinion.

If people isolated their children in the same manner they do their dogs they'd be arrested for abuse and neglect.
I don't understand the mentality behind it being alright to treat a dog in this manner and not a child. They both have the same needs pretty much.
I wish it was acceptable to turn loose a chained or kenneled dog and replace it with it's owner for a day so they'd know how it feels.

I have 3 dogs, all sleep in the bed with me, follow me wherever I go, and even go on rides with me just to get them out of the house. I do not know what I would do if something happened to any of them. These are not just pets, they are a part of the family. I find that people who do the things you mentioned are and should be considered abusive. These pups are not for amusement, they are a part of my life. Thank you for posting this question. I also want to say to those of you who are making fun of this and sending back stupid answers, KARMA!!

I feel the same way. Growing up, we always had the dog in the house sleeping in the bed. Now, my husband and I have a dog and she sleeps in the bed with us at night. I don't understand people who chain their dogs up or leave them out in the cold. People like that should not be allowed to have dogs!

damn good point. if a person's life is so busy they are rarely at home, a dog (& arguably not even a cat) should be kept. if you want an animal companion, you must be prepared to make sacrifices (such as giving your free time) for them. oh & the guy that mentioned asians seeing dogs as a delicacy, that's why the civilised world wants the dog/cat eaters eradicated. dirty heathen b*st*rds that they are!!! may plagues & floods blight them to extinction!
p.s. frankie p. if you feel so strongly about the poor starving people, give them your! money & food. no? then shut the f*ck up! hypocrite!

I have 5 dogs and everyone is in what room I am at the time. They wait outside the bathroom door when I go. I feel the same way about people and outdoor cats.

That drives me crazy!!! I had a dog that was still young so I couldn't trust her in the house on her own so I put her in her kennel when i was gone or extremely busy. Other than that she was always out of her kennel.
