The number one cause of soil erosion is deforestation.
As companies and developers cut down timber, this provokes a flat soil (and here comes the most direct consequence) water is not retained, thus flowing freely and wasted.
Since the roots of trees and plants are not there to retain water, underground water sources ("phreatic mantles") are not replenished, leaving less water available for human or cities' consumption.
In the US, plenty of green areas have simply been substituted with highways and concrete, provoking soil erosion.
In developing countries, huge areas of forest and jungle have been destroyed to give way to agriculture and cattle raising. (For example, the Amazonian jungle being razed to grow export-quality soja).
The obvious and most urgent solution for soil erosion is reforestation. Secondly, government should striclty enforce environmental regulations that are already in place, and cities could declare large green areas as protected zones where no construction should be permitted.

i'm not in the mood to do homework but i will tell you its mostly due to watershed. rain flows over the fields and takes soil with them. a good farmer plants their crops in a way to cut down on the flow of water or has terraces in their fields.
the consequences are loosing dirt, land and hillsides.
solution is to stop the flow and provide for the rain to flow in an appropriate area or to soak instead of forming rivers and valleys in the dirt.
