We are going to Koh Samui for our honeymoon in December this year, (one week in the low season before Dec 15 and two weeks in the high season after Dec 15). We are looking at paying around 1,700 baht per night. We want to stay in a nice resort, close to the beach - either Lamai or Chaweng. So far it looks like the Sand Sea Resort is the best price for what we are looking for. (Though the rooms are small and have no tv or bathtub.)

Has anyone gotten a better deal to stay in a nicer room or a nicer hotel on Koh Samui?

We stayed at the ISLANDER resort at Cheweng...it was 1000 baht a night and had TV..own toilet etc..staff friendly..small resturant on the beach... If you are paying 1700 Baht you should be getting TV..A/C and nice bathroom...The whole of cheweng beach is scattered with resorts..I'm sure you will find something(the only prob with chaweng beach...does get a bit crowded.esp with Brits).. koh Chang couple hours fro Bangkok is queter..less crowded and has really nice beaches....depends what ur after..I would have to say over Krabi side is the nicest...uve got Koh Phi Phi and Railey beach two of the best beaches Ive seen...good luck

The best bet is to use some websites that provide a bunch of pictures, prices and an indication of the room types available. In peak season you need to check that you have a great room, so make sure in the special comments field you put "honeymoon suite" and also check with customer service.

Anyway - you can start your research here with most alternatives and compare notes and prices:

a word of advice don't stay at those cheap rooms at the sand sea resort they are not very nice, however, the other rooms are nice but you pay for what you get. I think they want 2500 for the room we stayed in but during the high season we paid 2200 for it, and about 1500 during the low season, the resort is nice, it's just those cheap rooms you need to kept away from.
