I want to buy either a new or used super 8 camera. I am interested in purchasing it at a store if I can help it, and not online. I live in Mass. Does anyone know any stores or flea markets...ANYWHERE specific...where I can find one?

I was also hoping for some brand suggestions..it can range from inexpensive (cheap) to the expensive. I am really interested in using these to film home movies...or maybe produce an independent.

I also like the idea of learning about the mechanics of a machine and having good photo technique. I want a quality Super 8 that will last me a lifetime if possible. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend looking on the internet for businesses that sell Super 8 cameras and equipment. If you look long enough, you might be able to find a business that sells these kind of cameras - for 8mm cameras I think a specialty camera shop would probably have what you're looking for.

I think that if you are sincerely interested in film based cinematography then you may want to consider a larger format such as 16mm. Ideally if money were not an option 35mm would be the way to go in terms of cameras, but the cost of film and processing is just out of the question. Also I suspect that 16mm film will be around much longer than say Super 8. Fact is that nobody makes super 8 cameras anymore, not since the 90's but there are lots of companies making 16mm and film is readily available. There are of course cameras that shoot both 16 and super 8 such as a the beaulieu R16 which can be purchased used for around $200 Here are some articles for you to consider. I would suggest you stay away from flea markets when you consider purchasing because to be honest a lot of these people are not professional cinematographers or photographers for that matter, and you may be buying something that is broken for which there are no replacement parts for. If you decide to buy go with a reputable company like keh.com
