Absolutely.
Continue to encourage his love for music, especially if he has the talent to learn an instrument. It will always be something he will enjoy and can share with others.
Depending on how advanced (and how old) he is, a thousand bucks is not unreasonable for a quality instrument that will probably last him his entire lifetime. If he wisely researched and has decided on this one, particular guitar then, by all means, give him the money.

You don't need to spend $1000 on a guitar set up. Do your own research to find out for sure what an inexpensive set would cost (we just paid $200 for a guitar, amp and case). If he's only been playing for a year, he doesn't need top of the line with all the bells and whistles. If he's taking lessons, talk to his instructor yourself and find out what he really should have. Once you've figured out a reasonable amount that you would be willing to pay and that you can honestly afford, then tell him that's his budget. If he wants to upgrade he can either pay the difference out of his savings or save his money to buy a better one. And since he's telling you a new guitar would cost that much, I'd be a little suspect of his old guitar being beyond repair. Again, check it out yourself. Maybe take it to a music store and simply ask for advice. I think your son is playing you a bit.

i don't know if i would give him 1,000 dollars, i bought my husband a very high quality guitar and the full set (amplifier, and all that jazz, plus some music books and cds) for only 450. i would research the specific guitar and set he's looking at and see for yourself if it's worth that big of a chunk of money, or if he can settle for a guitar that's a bit cheaper. i mean, is he pursuing a career with this guitar that would make it necessary or is it just a hobby? research it for yourself... maybe he wants the money for something else... why would a guitar just up and not work properly anymore unless he wasn't taking care of it??

Give him the money, if he has been playing for a year, that shows he is pretty serious, nothing worse for a guitar player than having to play with a guitar that does not perform properly, and if it is money from birthdays and holidays, by all means he should be able to use it
He will thank you profusely for it, I am sure.

if he's been playing for a year and is dedicated to it then absolutely yes you should give him the money. This MTV generation lost in drugs and reality tv, kids dont have an attention span. They dont apply themselves the way the previous generation did. If he is showing exception to this stereotype, then why not?

First off why did you place this Q in toddlers and preschoolers? How old is this child and if you can spare the money go ahead but i would make him pay it back or work it off so he has vaule of the dollar. You should be able to make this decision yourself.
