"" Are you referring to a budgie? These are the birds usually called parakeets in the pet stores. They are one of many different parakeet species. Budgies make excellent birdie friends especially for people who have never had a bird before. They are very intelligent and the MALES can be very good talkers. Females don't talk.

All birds are relatively messy. Budgies tend to be less so just due to their smaller size. They also are quieter than the bigger parrots in terms of noise levels but they still are very chatty.

They are very cute birds and relatively easy to hand tame. I've had several that were companions wherever I went in the house. They can be very comical when they play and try to get your attention. """

all birds can be messy loud and can bite. but with alot of patience they can make great compainions.
as for female budgies not talking. they can talk. thats a myth that "female" birds cant talk they can and they will if they are going to.
me personly would say most budgies dont talk . not very likley.but yeah they can.
if you want something that can talk get a ringneck, cockatoo, african grey ect
but in saying that they can be loud.and need alot of attension but ALL animals do. they need to be let out of the cage. they need fruit, veggies, toys, pellets, seed(60%fruit veg.20%pellets 20% seed)
and if you do get one. get a young one maybe look around for a breeder, then you can see where is came from and if it is "young" alot of petshops actually say they are young but there really adults.
get a vet to clip there wings so you can tame it easier and safer. no bashing into windows walls ect.

Like most animal friends, you get from them what you give. My husband had a male parakeet for about 10 years. He was a very friendly, happy bird. My husband was very gentle and careful with him. Even once I moved in with my husband I was very careful and made sure that my cat & dog never hurt the bird; we kept them separate as needed. We never clipped his wings. He talked, ate with us and at night he put himself to bed by going into his cage. Yes, he pooped and he got seed on the floor, but we are animal lovers and we just cleaned up after him.

Just like you clean up after a cat, a dog, a kid or a husband!

He lived a long and very good life. But he did come down with gout and some other things before he passed away. We took him to a specialist and we kept him a little longer than he might have lasted otherwise.

But they are relatively fragile. They can get frightened, they need to be kept out of drafts. (I would never keep one in it's cage, outside). They should not be exposed to any kind of fumes, even if they are not in the same room as the source of those fumes. They can nip or bite but then, so can other living creatures in your house!

Choose wisely.

Parakeets are excellent little birds! They are friendly and smart too, every bit as smart as the large parrots. Try to get a boy, though because they tend to be more friendly than the girls.

Parakeets are 'well' behaved, charming, amusing and entertaining little pets when they are well taken care of. They enjoy the company of people and that inter reaction.

However; ignored, 'used' as an accessory or viewed as a bother they can become neurotic and display neurotic and extremely disturbing behavior.

They require daily care.

Good luck!

some are, some are not. they are just like us and dogs, cats etc. they all have different temperaments.
I do know that they are dirty messy birds and they require a lot of responsibility. some friends even complain that they flip seed out all over the place and keep them awake at night and are up chirping at day break.
good luck.

They can be trained to speak and sit on your shoulder but you have the have patience. They prefer multiples but, that can get noisy and messy. They are just like a dog or cat and need fresh food, water and daily attention or they can get stressed out, sick and grow hostile biting and pulling feathers and destroying anything within reach of their cage. If you don't have time to give them a lot of attention on a daily basis stick to fish or geckos.

Yes they will be perfectly fine together. I have 47 birds all of different breeds and they have so much fun together. Hope this helped.

if you are going to spend a lot of time with them yes but if you won't have a lot of time for the bird get two or they get lonely.
