I got a loan bill that I don't remember applying for. It has my social security number and it says i need to pay 75 dollars by Feb 16 or there will be interest added to it. How can i check if this loan bill is real or not?

Could this be a debt collection letter? I recommend pulling a copy of your credit report and start looking there. You can get a free credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com

Is there a telephone number on the letter? If so, call it - BUT DO NOT give any personal infomation until they can explain (and you understand what it is). If there is not a telephone number, send a certified letter to the company disputing the charge until you receive more information.

Call the company that sent you the bill. If they are not a name you would recongize don't give them any personal information, this could be a case of phishing where they are trying to get more information on you.

But it could be a matter of Identity Theft that has already happend. They should have the original paperwork and if you truly did not apply for the loan you may be a victim, and may have several other "loans" out there. If this is the case immediatly pull your credit report and contact your local law enforcement agency.

Legal funding (or pre-settlement financing) is a new financial resource that can help plaintiffs support themselves financially while awaiting the completion of a lawsuit and the settlement that might come with it. Legal funding is nontraditional and can be relatively expensive compared to more traditional financing methods, but it can certainly help. There should be some information on the paper where you can call and find out what you owe, and all that, if not then you need to call the credit bureau and find out. or either the bank name on the loan.
