My nephew will not drink any water (only soda and milk) and will not eat meat (exept for mcdonalds chicken nuggets and hotdogs), His mom does not argue with him and allows him to continue eating and drinking like this. They are now temporarily living with me, I babysit him every evening...Do you think that I should try to get him to eat/drink healthier?

Your house your rules, don't overdue it and alienate his parents. But if you are watching him by all means offer him healthier meals, maybe if he gets a taste of what good food is he may ask for it in the future.

how can you be vegetarian and only eat some veggies? vegetarians also don't eat meat, but they maybe eat fish. so, you can't be vegetarian. instead of eating when you're bored, find other creative means to spend your time. exercise is something you can definitely do when you're bored. you don't need a gym membership. run around your neighborhood after coming home from school. tell your family not to buy any sweets. eat smaller portions for lunch and dinner. but also eat healthy snacks in between meals like fruits and low-fat yogurt or energy bars. remember, you don't have to stuff your face with food whenever you feel like it. if you really want to be healthy, don't go on a crash diet because that's going to mess with your health too. dieting means eating healthy, not starving yourself. be responsible and discipline yourself. if you want, do some sort of reward system for yourself. for example, after seven days of eating healthy foods, reward yourself with a big scoop of ice cream for desert. then start over again eating healthy food for a week then reward yourself again with a brownie. good luck!

It sounds like the Mother of the child needs to be more responsible. Your concern is admirable, and he is fortunate to have you for an Auntie. I think it is a great idea to introduce him to healthier foods. Choose healthy foods that children like. There must be lists of them on the internet. Just type in 'healthy foods that kids like' or something like that. As far as water, it is vital to his well-being. If you have to drop a few berries in it to make it look better so be it :) You are wonderful Auntie!

Yes, please do! It's your house and your rules. Give him lots of healthy options. If he's hungry, he'll eat. And in time, his body will start to crave healthy foods.

To get him used to water, give him half juice/half water for a while, then just keep watering it down until it's all water. He shouldn't be drinking any soda at all.

Well, there are two sides to it. You can't force your sister to parent the way you think she should, even though I think you're right in this case. But who is buying the soda? If you're the one buying the groceries, don't buy junk anymore. If it's not in the house, then it's not an option that is available to him.

well i would say well in the long run its going to bad for the childs teeth and all but i would say that you can only voice your opinion and well i would say that you would have to try to help give him juices that are good for him and well try there and dont let him get his way thats why he gets what he wants from his parents lol so you just have to give him 2 options water or this juice and well the parents may not like it but you have to start somewhere

you can try, but i doubt it will work. the only thing i can think of is to buy healthier nuggets at the store that you can make at home. they also sell those packets that you can put in water to make them flavored. i'm pregnant right now and hate the taste of water, but i love those packets! try the grape flavored ones. they even have vitamins in them.

No, he is not your child.

If your relatives are such dead beats, you should not allow them to live with you.

Dumb parents = dumb kids

You do not need anything to do with them, do not allow your compassion to suck you down to their level, and that is exactly what is happening.

See passed them. People of that nature are generally only concerned with immediate pleasure and stimulation, never anything of substance. They WILL drag you down simply from being around you. Get rid of them.

OR, lay down the law and tell them that they follow your rules under your roof, for they are subjecting you to their 'hood' lifestyle, which will eventually rub off on you.
