Whatever you want to call it, for those who went to services, Christian, Muslim, catholic, Jewish, Protestant, Mormon. Whatever?

What did they say or do that finally was so over the top that you said the hell with this. I'm going to take responsibility for myself and good riddance to your stained glass window and Bronze Age superstitions.

The straw that broke my back. Picking on me while I brought my 3 month old and 3 year old (by myself!) to church. They said they could see through my long, black, ankle length skirt. I walked out and NEVER went back. I finally realized that they did not recognize a quality person who loved God. They only cared about power. And that is what they are about. Power and control. They don't care about money...they are a donation religion. But, they are definitely about POWER. Power is worse than Monetary greed!

Several years later, (now) I realize that I used to think my religion made me a good person. Now, I know I'm wholly responsible for and always was...a good person.

When I made an assessment of the cost of staying and being untrue to myself versus the cost of leaving.

I chose to be true to myself. It was the harder choice. I was very comfortable in my LDS (Mormon) lifestyle but in the end I couldn't violate my conscience once I knew what I knew.

I don't know if I would classify all these as cults either but there are definite similarities in Mormonism to cult behavior and control mechanisms if you've ever done any research on what constitutes a cult.

Probably when there inner sinful nature became to powerful and took over. Most people have a problem with religion, not because they fundamentally deny a creator for example. For most there doing something immoral in their life which is contrary to what there getting at church. Its just like in one of those movies when a person being exorcised fights, the devil wants to stay. I would guess you've got a few things in your life and that's why you left too. Your not strong enough to fight whatever it is on your own, sorry dude.

It wasn't anything that was said or done. I have lived a very happy fulfilling life. I just never really accepted the idea of god or all the stories in the bible. But the big thing for me was that I never "felt" the presence of god or the holy spirit. No matter how hard I prayed and searched I just never felt it. It was a very troubling time for me. So I went searching for something I could believe in. But after several years of that I decided atheism was the best fit for me.

I was about 22.

It took me another 25 years or so to realize how wrong I was.

Life could have been so much richer and more rewarding, if only I had taken the time then, to learn what I know now.

I went in circles with me being gay. I would "Sin" then rebuke, repent. After five years of trying to cure myself of homosexuality (Christian Science), I dedided to get off that merry-go-round.

Well, once I became a teenager, I thought I knew everything and decided that I didn't need God.

Then I grew up and realized that I am not in control. God and Jesus are.

You'll come home one day. Everyone will.

God bless,
=)
