it seems to choke for gas some times when driving,really bad up a grade. once warmed up not as bad. on cold morning I have to put cup of gas in thoat of carb to start. but not on warm days ????

my first question is does it have the carb or the fuel injection they had the fuel injection on the 302 engines and the carb on the 351. If its the 302 injected then you may have a weak fuel pump or need a tune up or how are you starting it because the injection system was very touchy on how you start it. if you have the 351 carb system then you have a disaster that carb is a night mare you would need to find someone that can convert it to a different carb for you the rebuild is $1000 or more.

I'll assume you have a carb on this engine. I used to pump the gas pedal 2 or three times before I started it. I'm not saying this is the correct method to start the car but it did work on my old Fords and Merc's. As the other guys have said on the answers, have your carb checked out by a good mechanic. Maybe, it's just a choke setting that can be adjusted.

Just to show I'm paying attention, although Trevor is undoubtedly better informed than I am, and because this simpleminded summary might be helpful to some people. The sunspot mechanism has been invoked to explain the Maunder minimum, but a lowering of total solar output by 0.4% seems more likely. The sunspot mechanism is not intrinsically implausible. Fewer sunspots, weaker solar magnetic field, more cosmic rays getting through to earth and seeding very high cloud, causing cooling. How relevant that is to the last decade, I don't know enough to say. Sealevel rise is slow because of the major contribution from thermal expansion of the oceans, which is a very long-term process. I would have the carb rebuilt. it sounds like it may possibly have a partially clogged main jet and some choke issues. Those carbs also were prone to power valve problems that would let all the gas drain out of the carb overnight. Also have the fuel pump checked for proper pressure.

You can't assume its a carb it was the first year Ford started the fthrottle body fuel injection and it was only on the 5.0 the 5.8 had the carb so it could be either one.

i own a repair shop,and it sounds like the choke needs set on it, if they get off it wont start good in cold weather at all ,id take it to a shop,and have them look at it,they might be able to make a simple adjustment to help it,there's lot of other things also that can cause this,just tell them to check it ,and let you know what is wrong with it,before they start to repair it,good luck,i hope this help,s.

carb is messed up/fast idle cam/choke pull offs(vaccuum operated) not working properly

hmmmmmmmmmm carburater is sticking and also turn your headlights on first before you hit the ignition ane that will your battery up do this for about 20 seconds then hit your key ignition
