The bible says God does not recognize divorce except in cases of infidelity. But many Christians are divorced. Some remarry, the most devout woman I know who had a bad situation at home (her husband was abusive) divorced her husband in the eyes of the law and the government, but morally held herself pure. She acted as if she was still married to that man. She did not date. She did not commit adultry. But she did not sleep with her ex, or have anything to do with him. She divorced him to legally protect herself and her children, but she herself followed a life that would glory God. Even she has said though that if her husband ever remarried or had a long term girlfriend and she thought he had had sex with another she would then be free to move on.
I think if you have tried everything and he won't go to rehab or counceling and quit, and things are really bad at home, then God would want you to protect yourself. Good luck I will pray for you.

Dannielle, most people don't really understand what exactly marriage is. It is a covenant established by God (not man) to unite a male and female together as one flesh in order to procreate as God has told us to. It's a mirror image of Jesus and His Church uniting.
the sad part is that most people don't realize this before they get married. As a result they leave God out of their marriage and things begin to fall apart. The Bible teaches that a couple is to be together for life. Unless one is unfaithful, then divorce is allowable. Someone wouldn't be in the position of an alcoholic spouse or an abusive spouse if they would've took the time before marriage to seek out God and find His Holy Wisdom for their lives.
He is a forgiving God though.

Well i think you should pray about it . But if it gets too bad you can't handle it the you probally should divorce . God does want you to keep your promises, and when you get married you promise stay together forever . Before you do anything though, do let your husband know how you feel, he probally dosen't know how much it is affecting or bothering you . I will pray for you . Good luck .
I hope that helps .

Old Testament says a man may divorce his wife. Not that a woman may divorce her husband. New Testament says not to divorce as you would cause your spouse (and yourself) to commit adultery. Wonder how many Christians that part of Jesus teachings. By the way, I am a heretic, not a Christian.

Hell, leave the azzhole. God wouldn't want you to suffer any more then you already have. Beside, MAN wrote the bible not God. Man wrote what they thought God would say. Does anyone really know? It was written 2,000 years ago. Remember, if God is a good God, he would want you to be happy. GET A DIVORCE and charge him with abuse. If you have kids they'll thank you.

First, I feel for you. Second, I'm not gonna give you chapter and verse since you already know what the Bible says. Can you go for counseling with your pastor? Does your husband know that his drinking is affecting his marriage? Are you both saved, and is he will to go into rehab to save his marriage? I will pray for you dear.
