Theistic evolution is the line of thought that believes that Darwinism does not contradict the bible. People that follow that doctrine, believes that the symbolism in the bible should not be taken literally and that the teachings contained on that book should be interpreted. They believed that God is behind the creation of everything, but that the origin of the world didn’t necessarily happened the exact way it was described in the Genesis. They believe that the scriptures should be respected, and that they were written under divine influence, but that intelligent individuals should take into consideration that they were written thousands of years ago, by tribes who did not really understand the world around them.

While I agree that the Bible language can at times be figurative, it really does say,( and not poetically) that when God made man he formed him from the dust of the ground, and even suggested the unique significance of this creation by also including the words " let us make man in our image".
This thought seems to be re-inforced later when judgment is pronounced upon the disobedient man when God says " dust you are, and to dust you will return"

But just to be agreeable, I did at one time,(long long ago) believe that it was possible for God to have used evolution for creation.
The problem with trying to harmonize these two trains of thought, is that the entire basis of evolution is that there is no God.
Still, if you are content with what you believe, cool with me.

What is also an interesting observation I have made about myself and others, is that we are always free to change our minds. At different times, we as humans sometimes feel the need to dig deeper into our beliefs. Searching for support or new angles. Life is a wonderful journey. Enjoy the different perspectives you have along the way. Talk to as many people as you can of different faiths. Dig on in to the books of man. The 'holy books'.What ever floats your boat. Just, try to keep an open mind and a gentle heart.
Peace!

I see things just as you described, except for one point - it is not only those who accept the findings of science who believe the Scriptures "should be interpreted". Everyone who reads the scriptures, especially without the guidance of any real authority, interprets them. And that is precisely why some people think that the scriptures conflict with scientific discovery. In fact, the conflict is between their personal interpretations of the Bible vs. scientific discovery. There is no conflict whatsoever between the discoveries of science and the Bible, ACCURATELY AND AUTHORITATIVELY interpreted. Truth cannot conflict with truth. However, such people are so certain that their own interpretations of Scripture are infallible, that their only option is to automatically condemn as false everything that conflicts with their personal view, regardless of the evidence supporting such truths, and regardless of the fact that the majority of Christians interpret Scripture differently than they do.
