Lower the mattress to the lowest point and keep both rails raised when she is in the crib...of course if you have a child like my daughter was she is going to attempt to climb out anyway...It was a trip to the ER for us because my daughter fell from the top of the rail to the floor and appeared to not be breathing. Part way to the ER she began screaming and when I got her out of the car seat she acted like her ribs and chest area hurt, I thought something was broken. Luckily she was fine but she refused to sleep in that crib after that. So I took the twin mattress off of my old bed used rails purchased at Toys R Us and set it on the floor...She LOVED it even started going to bed on her own!

My grandson did fall out of his crib at about six months. Thankfully the floor was carpeted and no injury. His mom lowered his mattress and I did the same at my house. Since then we have had no problem. He is now 13 months. Don't know how much longer the crib will suffice. When my daughter was small we had to buy her a toddler bed when she was a little over 12 months. She started climbing out of her bed and we were terrified she would get hurt. Has the baby ever attempted to climb out? First thing I would do is to lower the mattress. I would also say it is according to the baby's age. If over 18 months I would say it is time for a toddler bed. Good luck

Every baby is different though there are averages for milestones. Some walk at 9 months, some don't walk until 18 months. Climbing is different too. Though it's not a milestone...it's a skill that can be learned anytime. My son learned to climb up the stairs at 9 months and learned to climb down a month later. He started walking at 11 1/2 months.

make sure the crib is at the lowest setting and put pillows all around the crib at night. If it happens once and she falls, she won't get hurt. But once she discovers she can escape and does it regularly, it's pointless to have a crib anymore. graduate to a toddler bed with side rails. Or you could start introducing a toddler bed now if you think she's ready, and bypass the falling-out-of-the-crib issue all together.

If the crib is already as low as it will go, and she still climbs out you need to put her in a toddler bed. There's really no way to stop her from climbing out other than putting a lid on the crib, and that's something YOU SHOULD NOT DO.

Maybe you might want to start looking into a toddler bed.The crib mattress will work in a toddler bed to so all you need is the frame. Also you can buy one with rails that would be very helpful. The good thing about a toddler bed is there low to the ground so if by chance she falls out of bed she most likely wont get hurt as she is low to the ground.

Once they get to the climbing stage, you really have two choices- get a toddler bed, or get one of the tent covers (see-thru netting) that goes over the top of the crib. Some babies never try it- neither one of my children did, and stayed peacefully in their cribs until they turned two (and got toddler beds). Others are born climbers, and will stop at nothing to get out!

If your baby is ready to crawl out of her crib then chances are she's ready for a bed. Look at the factors on if she climbs on and off the couch yet by herself and if she can walk without stubbling, then just put a gate up at any stairs that she may be able to fall down and be sure things are out of reach that can hurt her and put her in her bed............i suggest getting a bedrail though to help her from falling out, plus it makes you feel better. :)

Maybe she won't; mine never did. But if you're really worried you can get a crib tent, available at Babies R Us and on the internet. It goes over the top of the crib and makes it impossible to get out from the inside.

I have been DYING for someone to ask this question because I heard the best idea for this problem!! Use a triangle shaped piece of fabric and sew it to her sleeper so she can't get her little legs over the rail! I didn't hear this advice in time for my twins, and had a few "overboards", lowering the crib mattress as far as possible helped me!
