Red is tricky. It's not unheard of for it to take 4 coats to cover and get a true color.

Use paint w/ lots of pigment. Cheap paint is a waste of time and money.

NEVER THIN PAINT!!

you are getting the roller marks because you are not keeping your edges wet and possibly not using even pressure on your roller.

forget trying to roll in the W pattern pattern, go up the wall all the way, then down the wall all the way in straight lines.

keep even pressure on the roller. always paint with the OPEN side of the roller frame towards the wet edge.

good luck. i'm sure it will look great when you are done.

i love red rooms.

P.S. red is no different than any other color if you prime. it should take 2 coats, unless you are using cheap paint.

pay for good paint. you'll never regret it!

deco has some good points. Also along with what she said gray primer works better with red paint than does pink. The dark of the gray behind the paint makes the red seem deeper. And, if the red needs more depth, you simply need to roll on more coats. ALWAYS WOK A WET EDGE!!!

It may be the brand of paint (too thick = old paint) or it could just need another coat. Paint should have a creamy consistency, not be too thick. If it is thick, it shows everything.

You need to thin your paint a bit!! Also, keep a wide brush handy to help smooth lines as you go!
