So I just took my car to get inspected at Firestone because I was hearing a noise from my rear strut-everything was fine with my car. When I went to pick it up, they told me the car was rough when you try to drive it. They think it could be an engine miss fire. They asked me to bring it tomorrow. Im driving and it doesn't even want to accelerate at the right speed, it feels forced. When Im at a stop light it shakes!!!! Can someone help me and give me some information regarding my car please!

You didn't mention the year of Escort, but broken rear springs happen to ALL Escorts from model years 1990 to 1999. So that could be the cause of the noise in the rear. SEVERAL things COULD cause an engine mis-fire. The following is a list of the more common causes in most vehicles:

-bad spark plug(s), wire(s), coilpack

-out of time engine (timing belt jumped teeth)

-bad fuel injector(s)

-low compression on cylinder(s), stuck valve(s), broken valve spring(s), piston damage

Those are just a few of the potential causes. The list is too numerous to mention here. What WILL happen if you drive it continuously before the problem is fixed, is eventual damage to your catalytic converter, as well as the lack of power you are experiencing, fuel consumption will be horrible. Lastly, you could ruin the engine, if you drive it like that for too long. With the list of parts mentioned, that does NOT mean you need to replace all those parts. Have it DIAGNOSED first, before you authorize any replacement of any part(s). Do not allow them to play any "guessing games". If you elect to take it to Auto Zone to have them give you the "free scan", remember that they are NOT mechanics. With that said, make sure it's looked at by a technician, preferably from the Ford dealership. It may cost you more, but it'll be worth it, and actually cost LESS when all is said and done.

Could be any number of things i would start by checking the spark plug wires making sure they are all on tight and not worn through park the car somewhere dark let it run se if you can see a arc of elictricity near the distributor (the thing the other end of the plug wire goes to) this would be the esiest fix. Clogged fuel filter? Clogged air filter? If it it feals like the engine is shaking I would start with plugs and wires.

well there are many things that can cause a car to missfire. not sure what year car you have and how many miles are on it but a tune-up will ussually solve a ford missfire. if it is an old one with wires a complete tune-up should cure the problem but if it is a newer car with individual coils per cylinder fords coils tend to go bad all the tim and you may have it checked to see if it needs a coil. one other common thing to make a car missfire is a bad egr valve if it get stuck in the open position it will def. make the car run poorly. good luck to ya.

You need a tune-up, you need new spark plugs and spark plug wires, for a 6 cylinder that will cost less than $30, $25 or less for a 4 cylinder, this is for parts and get someone to put them in. Also replace oil and filter, air filter and fuel filter.

Sounds rather like one of the HT (spark Plug) leads is defective of has come loose,or one of the spark plugs is playing up either way a simple service should sort it out, however it does seem strange that you take your car in to have one thing looked at it and it leaves with another problem! take it somewhere else or get a friend to take a look at it :0)

You might need new plug wires, and distributor cap with rotor. A lot of car owners seem to have forgotten about servicing these parts because we no longer change points and condensers.

I am praying God to give You the wisdom of not going back to that "firestone shop"
they disconnect something in the engine compartment, they are trying to rip money out of You.

look for another mechanic, take it to Auto Zone Store and tell them what is happening to You.
they will put the scanner for free.

i own a repair shop, and it sounds like it could be a bad mis-fire in the engine, that can be caused by a bad spark plug or a wire or even a distributor cap also,,any of this can cause this to happen, even a bad head gasket, there's so many things that can cause it i cant put them all down on one page ,have them scan the computer and see if it has any trouble codes in the computer, this will help in repairing it also, good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

It sounds like to me if you get a tune up such as changing your spark plugs and plug wire it should line its self out if not then if may be a fuel problem. Like a fuel pump out or filter cloged.
