Have you eaten popcorn or nuts with skins lately? It sounds like you've got a little something under the tissue causing the swelling and pain. If you have had something like this to eat, then that's probably what's happened. You may be able to floss the area really well to remove it, or vigorously rinse the area to try to dislodge it. If you can determine where it's lodged at (in between a tooth) you can tie a knot into a piece of floss, slip it in like normal, then slide the knot through between the teeth to pull the foreign object out. This is how we normally remove them before we pull out the explorer or scaler. If you can't get it out or it's not something under the tissue then you do need to see your dentist to have this checked out, it could be an abscess starting. Hope this helps you and good luck.

To ease the soreness take Advil or Motrin 600 mg dose and use warm salt water rinses several times a day. To help with a possible infection use about a half and half mixture of peroxide with warm water solution to rinse with, allow this to sit for a moment and bubble good at the area then rinse with water well. Hope this helps you!

Sometimes you'll accidental bite your cheek or you'll get some kind of infection in your mouth that you don't even know about. It can be extremely painful and irritating. Sometimes it will stick to your cheek but other times it will go into your gums and surrounding tissue. I would recommend getting and oral rinse (like Listerine) if you can tolerate it, or at least rinsing with some warm salt water. That should help with any bacteria. You can also take some Ibuprofen for the swelling and pain, plus it will help if it's an injury in the muscles. If you notice more swelling, leakage(pus) or any other signs of infection see your dentist or even your doctor ASAP!
