I recently lost about 30 pounds in 3 months, so hopefully this advice will be useful.
First off, make sure you can afford to lose the weight - 50lbs is a lot! Also, keep in mind that the slower you lose the weight, the less likely you are to put it back on. Also, if you lose that much weight that quickly, you will get a lot of stretch marks and your skin will likely sag in some areas. If you want to lose the weight and keep it off, make sure you can eat / live this way for most of your life (it's ok to have a cheat day once a week). If you think you can't, you need to change your plan (why gain it all back?) Remember to keep these things in mind.
So I went on the diet because I was always feeling ill (it's called the anti-candida diet) and this diet got rid of my symptoms and gave me way more energy.
I did not eat:
- all sugars (check labels)
- juice (too much sugar)
- white bread and pasta (only whole grain)
- most dairy (lots of sugar in dairy - plain yogurt is the exception)
- anything fermented (no alcohol, vinegar etc.)
- nothing fried
- nothing with preservatives
I limited:
- potatoes
- white rice
- beef
- pork
I ate:
- veggies (Eat lots of the green leafy ones, brocolli, peppers and tomatoes. Carrots and corn are good too but they do have more starch. Avocadoes are awesome and sure make a salad more exciting.)
- fish
- chicken (lean)
- tofu
- eggs
- beans (fiber is very important if you are on a lower carb diet)
- brown rice
-plain yogurt (make sure there are active bateria cultures in it)
- whole grains (like oatmeal (not instant, flavoured), quinoa, etc.)
- rice cakes (a good replacement for bread)
- soups made with foods I could have
- nuts
- herbal tea
- green tea (suppposed to be good for weight loss)
- herbs and spices (garlic is so good for you)
Tips:
- make your own tzatziki (cucumber dip with plain yogurt. It's easy and super delicious on salads, with chicken or potatoes
- make your own hummus (chick pea dip - I make it with sundried tomatoes). Awesome for dipping raw veggies.
- drink lots of water
I really didn't change my exercise schedule (did yoga once a week, went to the gym twice a week) and still lost 30 lbs. I would say that you should commit to an exercise program you can stay with. Maybe 3-4 times a week? That's up to you.
I think this diet is similar to the South Beach Diet, if that helps. Different sites have slightly different takes on the anti-candida diet. I adjusted it to my own tastes, while getting rid of the main things (sugar and white bread, pasta). You can also find out more info on the anti-candida diet at:
http://www.candidadiet.com/treatment/treatment_diet.shtml
Hope this helps! Good luck.

lets see that is 10lbs a month, so that would be a little less then 3 lb a week.
OK this is all free and does cost not anything, first plan a weight lifting program 3 times a week skip a day in between, on the days that you skip you will do 30 minutes of either treadmill, bike or jump rope, pick only one for that day. before breakfast you will do three types of sit ups each targeting a different area of the abs every other day, now its time to eat, you will eat every 3 hours, 1 portion of lean meat, i complex carb source and a fiborous vegetable. so that will be 3 meals with two protein snacks( shake or bar) a total of five meals a day. this is the safest way to lose the weight without sacrificing lean muscle tissue, remember when you lose lean muscle you gain fat tissue and we do not want that. good luck and GET TO WORK!!!!

you need to start an excercise program, regularly. you have to do something to build your muscles: weightlifting, and add an activity that will burn fat like swimming or running.
you should also cut out sugar from your diet completely: try eating honey, or stevia (actually counteracts diabetes!) or chewing gum(sugarless). before you go to the store, write a list, and don't buy anything off of that list. don't go when you're hungry either, as you'll be more likely to buy junk food. don't eat junk food, or go to fast food restaurants, or eat a lot of fatty foods like butter and cream and mcdonalds.
stop watching TV and going on the internet for more than a short while: cleaning your house, or walking the dog, are all going to burn more fat.
go to the library and check out a bunch of weightloss books and workout books and cook books. read the books when you need motivation, and talk to your doctor about which one you should follow.
lastly, i would reccommend keeping a journal. this may seem unrelated, but often times we eat when we are sad or lonely. instead, write in your journal. and the first things you should write? a pep speech on why you want to lose the weight so that whenever you feel like a failure, you can read it and remind yourself that you can do this, maybe add some pictures from magazines of gorgeous bodies, because even though they are grossly incorrect, they might keep you on track. the other thing you should write in your journal is a list of things you can do when you're bored (instead of watching TV, surfing the internet, or eating) and you can refer to it.
remember to tell the people you live with what you are doing so that they can help you, and they can not bring sweets and fats into the house. you need to find the real motivation in yourself, but when you need support, friends and family are great to lean on.
whenever you break down, start again. everyday is a new start, everyday is a new beginning. GOOD LUCK, and stick to it!!!!!!

50 pounds in five months is aggressive. You've essentially got to burn 2-3 pounds a week to meet that goal. Not impossible...but aggressive. I would get yourself a notebook and write down your starting weight and everything that you eat (food log). Under that subtract your BMR & exercise (the site below has free calculators & templates to use). You'll need to have a deficit of 1000 calories every day to lose 2 pounds per week. I would NOT recommend starving yourself, so I would suggest starting a walking / running routine to give you a lot more calorie burn. It's tough and it'll take some will power...but you can do it. Good luck.

that is roughly 4 pounds a week.. so it isn't as hard as you think it is.. Though the guideline is 2-3 pounds.
CARDIO (ie Running) (listen to upbeat music whilst doing it)
And as that can get boring - add fun sports into your life like tennis + Swimming + dancing etc so it's not as hellish..
might actually start enjoying it!!
Eat healthy - Lots of fruit and veg and non processed foods. Lean chicken, fish, Organic foods.
No pizza / fries / burgers etc
Cut down on carbs (bread + Pasta + Potatoes etc) but don't cut it out completely as your body needs it.
Consulting a nutritionist would be best.
Just to be healthy about it alright.
You can do it if you are determined. The hardest part is sticking to it.

no carbs for 3 weeks, including fruit. you'll drop 13-15 pounds just from that. No alcohol, no soda, no milk. only water-at least 2 liters per day. Fiber and protein will fill you up. snack on peanuts and almlonds. Books that have helped me -"south beach diet" and "how to get a hollywood body in 6 weeks." don't eat 3 hours before bedtime. always eat breakfast. don't try to starve yourself. after about 2-3 weeks, allow some fruits back into your diet. how tall are you and how much do you weigh? do you already exercise?

I'm not sure about your time table there but you can start off with cutting your meal portions in half and make your plate like this: 1/2 vegetables, 1/4 meat and 1/4 fruit, grains,or dairy.start walking too, walking will increase the heart rate and get that metabolism going. You could go to your family doctor and ask if he/she could help with hunger control, there are things out there but prescription and they work ..It's not a fix but it is a jump start to being where you need to be.. Hope this helps you, Also, try yogurt as a snack instead of chips.Grapefruit juice after meals will help with the fat burning process too..Good luck...

Temporarily become a vegatarian for that amount of time and exercise like a maniac. Run as much as you can physically withstand, do as many jumping jacks as you can, and basically as much as any cardio exercise you can stand. That will melt the weight off. Oh, yes -- it will!
