America is great because it represents a super culture which allows many cultures to coexist in peace. People of many ethnic backgrounds, nationalities, religions etc. come here and contribute to our great nation while maintaining their own traditions and beliefs. We are great because the best people from around the world come here to take advantage of freedom and reach their full potential. From the time of the first Europeans, great people have been coming and contributing to the cause of freedom.
We believe in Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Everybody is entitled to these rights and nobody can rightfully take one of these rights from another without the due process of law. The Islamic extremist on 9/11 took these rights from Americans (and people of many other nationalities). As long as your friend believes these rights are fundamental and does not desire to infringe on the rights of others, she is certainly welcome. Just ask her to come legally.

Well the USA patriot act violates the first amendment which is the fabric of this nation, so yea she does have reason to be afriad. If shes a suspect in anything she could be gone to guantanamo or some other secret prison where she is harrased for her belief! just saying
- The First Amendment -
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"
Thousands of books are banned each year on palestine.

I don't know of any discrimination going around that isn't applied equally to orientals, blacks, browns, etc.
Seems like Arabs own every corner Beer and Milk store, most electronics place in downtown LA or Manhattan, most computer mail order shop. Almost every taxi driver in NY has a prayer rug and I'm told it is THEY who pratise discrimination. There have been citations of Somalian taxi drivers who will not pick up people from the airport who are bringing booze with them.
Now where's the discrimination!

sos: Sad to hear that ! We in North America need to show her that we are different than the Muslims she is accustomed to seeing and the dogmatic, self-righteous approach they have to their religion of legalism ! We need to be a Continent where people can write back to their countries of origin a whole-heartedly say, "we were lied to about the Americans or / and the Canadians because they are really a great people and I'm happy to live here" !!! This will be far better than shooting bullets and smearing people like Muslims, with racial slurs ! Maybe we are ashamed of who we are and pick on others to make them the scape goats for our short-fall ? !!!

She should move here. I will be her friend - there are houses for sale down the street! There is a large Muslim community in Dearborn, Michigan, but maybe she would like to live outside of the Muslim community. Tell her she is welcome here in America. :o)

theres always gonna be those few really mean people, but most of the people here that i know arent racist at all.
Most of the people in my community dont really care what religion you are, just as long as you are a good neighbor.

It's not racism it's bigotry.
And she should not be afraid. This is what America is for. Freedom of religion. People forget that. They need to be reminded.
